Aalton Motel in Christchurch

My wife I stayed here 25 November for 2 days . We found the host friendly and helpful. We stayed in unit 8 . The room is large and comfortable. Bedding is comfortable and clean . Found the kitchen and bathroom which are stuck in the 1970s in unclean and in a un hygienic condition . Housekeeping seems a major issue here . The star rating doesn’t match the condition of the kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom floor was dirty . The shower facility was primitive. The fan switches on with the light but makes a lot of noise for a start loud enough to wake you up if someone needs to use the toilet at night the exhaust fan grill is filthy.The light above the basin doesn’t work and needs replacing. The kitchen is badly due for a refurbishment. The oven is filthy . The cupboards are dirty. The toaster is filthy ! Salt and pepper shakers empty . Bathroom and kitchen floor need cleaned. The courtyard at the back is neglected and full of weeds . The fridge has not been defrosted for a long time causing everything to freeze up like the milk we couldn’t use. A previous guest left items in the ice box that should have been removed by the cleaning crew. We were disappointed with our stay. Surely the owners must be aware but either don’t care or are unaware. The is an establishment I would not recommend to anyone.

We were a bit disappointed with our stay, as the accommodation didn’t meet the standard we expected for the price we paid. When we arrived after 2:00 pm, our room wasn’t quite ready, so we had to wait for it to be finished and the check in process was quite difficult when we were required to use a translator to communicate with the staff member whom did not speak or understand English. There was also no smoke alarm installed (only the attachment plate left on the ceiling where one had previously been), which made us feel pretty uneasy, and we ended up going out late at night to buy one ourselves when we realised there wasn't one so that we felt like we could sleep safely. The shower mixer was installed the wrong way around (cold was hot and hot was cold), and I accidentally burnt my fingertips checking the temperature before my young child got in the shower — thankfully it was me that got hurt and not him. The room was very hot with no air conditioning and so was getting into a cool shower to cool off before bed and because of it being installed back to front it would have been on scald level for him. Very unsafe. There was no milk supplied on arrival so couldn't make a cuppa. The pillows were very flat, they were either very old and deflated, or toddler style flat pillows and there was only one per person on the main bed so got very sore necks overnight. There were several small maintenance and cleaning issues that stood out —the toilet security stay was taped up, the hairdryer bracket on the wall was loose and has come out of its attachment so kept falling off the wall each time i used it, the carpet was stained and really grubby, paint was peeling in places, there was some mould around the unit, and the stovetop had baked-on residue. We also noticed the light switch by the toilet needed better cleaning as it had a previous guests smear of bowel motion wiped on it - pretty gross, there were grubby marks on all the walls and windows, so much dust around all the skirtings and filth and grease around the kitchen - just no hygiene standards. The single beds need headboards, as the curtains that dangle far over the pillows on the bed pose a suffocation risk to any children sleeping in them. Also the large amount of cords hanging around the tv, just pop some love into it and hide them - this also makes it safer for small children near that too. During our stay, the office was not attended at any stage and the call bell went unanswered each time we tried to reach someone to have a chat about our troubles even though we could hear people inside the main house attached to the office - we kind of felt ignored, including when we needed fresh towels on the second evening because the room hadn't been serviced throughout the day and when we got back and needed showers and clean hand towels there wasn't any so that was a bit disappointing. Room very run down bathroom shower was horrible the hand held would stay on pole,tap dripped all night ,room out dated and needs repair

Condition of room and property was very poor and needs a good clean and some TLC. There was mold on the curtains and window sills. Window frames were rusty. Latch on one of the windows was missing. Bags of rubbish, beer cans and cigarettes butts dumped at back door of units. Website says office is open until 8pm but closed by 5pm during our stay.

I have stayed in this motel many times, since new owners took over this place is very bad. I will never stay here again.
The whole place is in very bad condition.
