Whispering Sands Motel in Gisborne

We stayed at this motel for just one night during our trip. It is sited a short walk across to the beachfront in Gisborne. The room was a good size, we actually had two rooms joined by a small kitchen and small bathroom with shower. Kitchen had oven and hob which was a bonus as most motels appear to have just microwaves. There was a small seating area outside both front and rear doors. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a wonderful stay and couldn’t be happier with our experience. The service was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The rooms were spotless and beautifully maintained, with very comfortable beds that ensured a great night’s sleep. The view was absolutely stunning — waking up to the ocean and having stairs directly from the balcony down to the beach was truly special and unforgettable. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for comfort, cleanliness, and a magical seaside location.

What a wonderful place to stay. We received a very warm welcome and the room was ready. It was all spotlessly clean and well equipped. The furnishings were or a high standard. But the best thing is the view of the sea and beach. It was wonderful to sit on the balcony with a glass of wine listening to the waves. Unfortunately we only stayed one night as I could have stayed forever.

An excellent stop over on our tour of New Zealand. Check in was quick and easy and we were even given a small bottle of milk. Our room was on the first floor, it was spotlessly clean and very well appointed with a bedroom, separate lounge area overlooking the ocean, small kitchen and shower room. I would highly recommend this motel as it was excellent value for money.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Whispering Sands. We were two couples. We had the top floor room (1st floor) and our friends stayed on the ground floor. We had drinks on their patio area which also had a bench seat and sun umbrella on the grass area. We also loved sitting on our balcony overlooking the beach and sea. What a fabulous view and location! The beds were super comfortable and there’s a little kitchen in the middle of the apartment separating the bedrooms. Everything was spotlessly clean and the guy who helped us check in was friendly and cheerful. We’ll definitely stay here again when we visit Gisborne. Loved the Motel and the nearby boardwalk.

Beautiful beach front positioned motel which has been tastefully refurbished with many thoughtful details. Jacky the manager went above and beyond to accommodate our changing travel needs when we needed an extra night stay due to medical requirements. She is a real asset to this business . The motel was meticulously clean and the beds very comfortable and the accommodation experience was excellent value. Highly recommend . Pamela and David

Lovely spot right on the beach. Had room 14, 2 bedrooms ​upstairs. Great views not only from the balcony, but also the bedrooms. Had private staircase to the beach. Nice kitchen facility as well. Our top spot we stayed on our New Zealand trip.

It's friendly great people who run it and the housecleaning staff are really nice and helpful great views of the beach and the logging boats that come into &out of the port

Have been coming to Whispering Sands for 10 years. The location is great being right on the beach, the room's are of high standards.
Best of all though are the owners Pete and Jude, who make you feel as though you are part of their family. Highly recommend it as a place to stay in Gisborne.
