Penzión Hradby in Presov

We stayed in this self proclaimed 4* Hotel 2 nights. Online check-in wasn't working, we had to do it one more time with weirdly looking self check machine when we arrived. Payments via card were denied without reason and whole process failed twice until we decided to pay cash. Luckily we had some. Machine gave us card from our room which wasn't working. So we have to call support and have staff from near by hotel come in with actual physical key.

Room was spacious, barely furnished and windows were missing nets against flies and insect. It was hot summer nights and as soon as we open windows we ended up with room full of flying bugs. There is no air conditioning in rooms by the way. Minibar doesn't exist, bed was uncomfortable and based on previous reviews about quality of breakfast, we decided to skip them. After one first night we have been approach by maid asking when are we leaving. They clearly don't have schedule about length of guest staying in. What is more strange is the fact that main door of "Hotel" are always open and there is no staff on premises.

As you coming (and going out) to this "Hotel" car park you have to call via phone to staff and ask them to open gate. Parking lot is next to a building with hard surface to drag your suitcases on. When you are entering hotel you will be welcomed by few smelly garbing bins. There is so many wrong things with this "Hotel" that I could probably continue for another 3 paragraphs. Whoever named it Black Horse is living still in 20th Century.

Only positive thing about it is friendly staff and its location.

This was the third - and last - time we stayed at this hotel.
I filled up ahead of time, online, all our info. On arrival, the check in machine didn’t work. I called the help number, the human who answered wasn’t able to help.
The English check in version did not work. We were lucky to find a young Ukrainian man, who was looking for a hotel in the town, who spoke Slovak, and helped us with the Slovak check in version. With his help, we managed to check in, and the machine issued the hotel card.
But the card wasn’t able to open the room we were given (#207), which was located on the first floor, not on the second).
Finally, one hour after our arrival, a real person arrived with a metal key, so we could enter the room.
It is a pity, because the rooms are big, nice, clean, the bathroom is nice, the shower big enough.
The carpets on the corridors are dirty, look terrible, they should be cleaned.
After a 7 hours drive, waiting one hour to get in a payed room is not a pleasant experience.

Stay away from this hotel, until they can fix the check in:
The hotel has an “AI receptionist”
- I checked in online, yesterday evening, from home, I filled up all info required
- I received from the hotel the codes for check in
- the English check in version didn’t work
- I called the help number, the human voice unable to help
- being lucky, an Ukrainian living in Skavakia, looking for a hotel, speaking Slovak, helped us with the Slovak check in menu, which worked
- I payed for the parking and 2 x €5 for the privilege of visiting the town
- the AI machine gave as the hotel card, which wasn’t able to open the room
- I called again the human voice
- after the heavy rain stopped, a young woman arrived with a “real” metal key
So, with AI help, it took us one hour to get into the hotel room
There is no security, and since there is no receptionist and the entry door is not kept locked, everybody can enter the hotel.
The fridge in the room was warm, not cold, despite being on.
Too bad, since the room is OK, clean, big. We slept in this hotel twice before. Today was the last time

Disappointing
I stayed here several time and the last one is really disappointing. Now check-in and out are managed by a service machine and most of the time there is nobody at the reception. Breakfast options are reduced (only some bread, no more soft bread, croissant, crepes or anything like that you could expect), room mini bar is now empty, room temperature still too high. But price remains the same or even higher …

I never saw the hotel front desk during the whole process. Check-in and check-out all depended on a not-so-smart device, and no one provided any assistance! The room was unremarkable except that it was big. I really can't believe that such facilities and services have the courage to charge such a high price! ! !

Pros: very good location, parking in the fenced yard. My room was huge, as was the bathroom. The room had a balcony, with garden furniture for several people. Cons: The front door of the apartment was sagging and difficult to close. In the bathroom, the towel rail was torn off the wall, and despite a notice, it was not repaired. Very inadequate lighting in the living area. The car park is open to pedestrian from the side (anyone can get to your car), you have to phone or go to the front desk in person to open the door.

No air conditioning and poor service
No air conditioning, the receptionist didn't know if there were any rooms with air conditioning, which is truly incredible for a 4-star hotel, really a two-star.
