Sugdiyon Hotel in Khudzhand

This place is in desperate need of an update. Things were acceptably clean, but it’s a 1970s Soviet time warp. The room was very stark and very brown. We were told that oftentimes you had to choose between having electricity or having hot water. We had both, sort of; the water pressure was abysmal, the water was tepid, not hot, and it ran out every night just as I was finishing my shower. Then my husband had to wait about 30 minutes for the water to return. The bathroom was ok – fairly nice towels with a good amount of towel bars/hooks and decent counter space for toiletries. The bed was hard as a rock, which didn’t lend itself to comfortable sleeping. The elevators were scary – made lots of noises that made us wonder if they were going to survive another night. Breakfast wasn’t great. No eggs, no bread other than sweet pastries, no yogurt, etc. And they didn’t keep things stocked so we had to wait almost 15 minutes for coffee cups. Staff was OK – nothing special, not overly friendly or helpful. They refused to give us an extra blanket, they took our slippers after the first night, wouldn’t allow us to buy a drink at the bar and charge it to our room – cash only. And then there was uncertainty as to whether we had to pay in U.S. dollars or Tajik Somoni, necessitating a conference with the manager. It’s in a nice location within walking distance of a couple of things and right on the river. This is the 2nd largest city in Tajikistan and if they’re serious about growing and attracting more business and tourist dollars, they’re going to need to do much better than this place.

I stayed here only one night. The location is very good. It took quite a while to get checked in, but I finally made it. The room was surprisingly small, but it was clean. The bed was also sufficiently comfortable. Breakfast was OK but nothing to get excited about. I would probably consider another hotel if I was in town again. But I admit that it may not be possible to improve on this choice.

Stayed for one night with a group. Hotel has excellent location and looks great from the outside but the interior is rather run down and not well kept. The staff is not helpful and rude.

Basic hotel. The shower was bad and the room had not been cleaned very well. They have a breakfast, but it is as minimal as a breakfast can be. We had a balcony, but the door to it didn't work well and the balcony was dirty.
