We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the La Playa Hotel. Hospitality was excellent and all the staff was very friendly. The room and amenities were great. You can't beat the location. It's just a few minutes from the beach and the main shopping area in Carmel. We appreciated the amenities that were offered on top, like a private driver bringing you to and picking you up from your dinner reservation...

Lovely hotel with a lot of charm. We had an ocean-facing room, and I loved the decor. The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast spread was excellent and one of the best we've had at a hotel. The service was also top-notch. I deducted a star for the room's shower, which smelled musty and was a distraction from the otherwise perfect experience.

Our stay was beautiful! The hotel is stunning, with a friendly and attentive staff, eager to make your stay a happy one. The buffet breakfast with omelette and waffle station was fabulous. The hotel is an historical building so the rooms and bathrooms maintain the original footprint and size, which prohibited any enlargement of the very small bathroom. Property is quite nice good location and good bones. Restaurant is nice. Food was great. Service at restaurant was great. Front Desk did not honor my reservation. Said it did not exist and was very difficult. Said call ******* and figure it out. Had to really escalate to just even stay there.

This hotel is easy to find just off the main street and minutes from the highway. The anticipated weather forecast was rain so we weren't worried to much about the location as long as it was in Carmel. Clean, large rooms aren't anything fancy -location is the best feature of this hotel. Parking is a hassle in Carmel, so it was nice to simply park the car and walk around - breakfast was meh.

The location was excellent in down-town Carmel. The staff was friendly and efficient and made our stay very memorable. We will definitely stay here again.

The location, staff & breakfast were all perfect! We stayed just for one night and it was perfect. They also had wine & snacks out in the evening which was very nice too. Only thing I would agree with other guests about is the shower could definitely use some cleaning & upkeep but overall the hotel is very charming.

Better attention to details - free fresh water in the room and shower gel! Our toilet seat was broken and so was one of the lamps. TV volume didn’t work and the walls are wafer thin.

The hotel staff was very accommodating even after the power went out for a few days. They had lanterns and lights for everyone and they were so friendly. The fresh breakfast was amazing.

Room was very dated and there was a strange smell. Very clean though and tea/coffee machine in the room. Free hot drinks at reception too. Some noise from the room above and outside our room too. The place was central to everything and there’s a pool on site. We went for breakfast at 9am and lots of stuff had run out and not replenished. We asked if there was more bread but were told no!

A surprisingly good motel! Make sure to book a room with a balcony; it's very cozy and clean. This motel, being right in town, is a world apart from those you find on the highway. The front desk staff were very welcoming, and even said goodnight in Chinese – a really nice personal touch! 👍

I love this place, I come here with my dad every year and I think the price is great for the room. We stay in the queen suite and love the two room 2 bathroom set-up. Very clean and quaint.The delivery of a continental breakfast was a welcome surprise

The room was fine. It had been remodeled since we last stayed there. It was a bit noisy--garbage collection early in the morning and next unit over was noisy. The breakfast was adequate.

The room was very clean and updated. The staff were excellent, I didn't have any issues but enjoyed talking to them.

Great location for people who love to walk around town! Plenty of dining options nearby. We found the bed to be very comfortable and the sheets were super soft. Great location is the USP. It's an old place but maintained well. Not very convenient if you have seniors with knee issues. Limited choice of breakfast. No kitchen / restaurant. We stayed in a 2BR suite with oceanview. It's their largest suite and it had a kitchenette with burners, microwave, mini fridge n few utensils. Other rooms don't have kitchenette. Our room had gas fireplace too.

My +1 and I spent a few days in Carmel, and decided to stay at the Colonial Terrace. In short, the grounds are beautiful, the room was cozy, and the staff was very accommodating. The location is only one street up from the beach, and a 5-10 minute walk to downtown. There is a pretty good hill you have to walk up if you take Ocean Avenue, but we thought being closer to the water was worth it. We decided...

Excellent location, great breakfast delivered to our room every morning. Property grounds are beautiful and staff is very helpful and nice. We are a family of 3 stayed 4 days in unit 26 overlooking the ocean. It was a very spacious suite. We will be back.

Great location one block from the ocean. The front desk has chairs and towels you can borrow for the beach which great. Lots of cute outdoor seating and a fireplace which was cool. Staff was very nice. Our room (queen courtyard view) could use an update but was good value for the price.

If you stay here in late Nov, walk down to the beach about 5:40 pm and catch the sunset. And grab a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie from the lobby on your way down.

You can order a picnic basket to go at the front desk!

Briarwood Inn

The room was above the garage, and carrying luggage up required climbing a long flight of stairs, which was a bit inconvenient. The room facilities were fairly complete; it had two bedrooms, a living room, and a spare cot, enough for five people. Service was practically nonexistent; after checking in and getting the key, I never saw the host again.

We booked a two-bedroom suite, which is the whole 2nd floor. The suite was very quiet, so we had excellent sleep. Parking in the area is understandably tight, but our suite had a dedicated parking spot, which was very convenient for us. Overall, it was very good experience for us for a one-night stay in Carmel by the Sea.

I loved this place, feel like a fantasy film very beautiful, all the facilities, I’ll be back this is fact 100% thanks

The room is just as is pictured. It's small, but we used it just for sleeping. It's The in a pretty good location, which is a bonus. The room was clean, but it does smell a bit old. The parking spots are pretty tight, but others have mentioned that already.

This was my 2nd stay at Briarwood Inn and I cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Carmel.There were 4 of us in the penthouse for a girls trip. We loved having 2 rooms with big beds as well as 2 bathrooms! Having the living room to hang out in was perfect. We loved having an assigned parking space, so you always know you have a spot. The location is absolutely perfect! So quiet, and walking distance...

I liked it here! Our room was very spacious, and we booked one that had parking. It's an older property, but has its own charm. We didn't have any problems with noise.

Jackie was terrific and helpful in getting checked in and help with a loud furnace. The breakfast and snacks were a surprise and much better than the standard muffins and coffee. We enjoyed our stay and will be back again.

We have stayed at Carmel Country Inn at least 5 times over the past few years. Amy and her staff are wonderful. They are so friendly and provide a great environment. Wonderfully positioned cottage-like inn that is tucked away from the busier, yet quaint, part of downtown Carmel. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was simple but good, and the location just a couple blocks away from shops, wine tastings, and restaurants. We loved our time spent there.
