Ocean Breeze Inn in Saint Augustine Beach

The location is great. I saw a roach in the room. It's FL and this kind of thing is hard to control, especially after bad storms like the hurricane that just came through. The manager, possibly the owner too, Sue, was not very friendly. No smile. No positive attitude. Just kind of a sign here and get the hell away from me vibe. The room had a "remodel" but I use that term loosely. It was clearly done at the cheapest price point by the lowest bidder.
The staff doesn't respect the Do Not Distrurb sign which went up 10 min after checking in. Yesterday morning, the cleaning person knocked loudly yelling "housekeeping" and woke me up. I left some towels on the floor in my bathroom and a wash cloth on the sink before heading out for part of the day and when I came back, they were gone. I really don't want people in my room while I am gone, hence the DND sign. If it wasn't for that, I would give at least 3 stars because otherwise, it was a decent room for the price and location.

Do not stay here! I would give this place zero stars! The room was large, but dimly lit and the water in the room tasted horrible. Carpet was dirty. Something had been spilled on the blanket and looked like it had not been washed. The breakfast was all toast, yogurt, waffles and cereal. No fruit, no water, and very sweet juices. The first night I had ants that came up the drain. I was told it was because of the rain and how wet it was. Mosquitoes were in the bathroom daily, killed about six. Then I woke to find bed bugs crawling on the sheets toward me. I must have killed 5 and they were even on the bed I didn't sleep in. I had been bitten over night. I was to stay two more days, but immediately checked out and demanded a refund for at least one night. Never again... Great location, but needs updated and thoroughly cleaned.

Rooms are not sound proof. People over our room were “active “ all night. Didn’t get any sleep from 2:00 am on. Chair scraping the floor, dropping things on the floor, rolling chair across the floor. Complained to front desk. Never stopped until 5:30 am. Outside doors had no privacy locks so anyone could come and go all night.

The location was excellent! That is the only positive thing I can say about this hotel. We could only get into one of the two rooms we reserved at 3 PM as the other room had a broken toilet. They never contacted us to give us an update on the toilet and finally when we checked back at 5:30, they gave us a different room. Customer service was poor. Rooms were old and in barely adequate condition. After falling asleep, we were awakened at 1 AM by a group of people having a tailgate party in the parking lot in front of the rooms. I finally called the front desk and they said they had called the cops. The party lasted for a good hour. The next morning the partiers started up again about 830, with yelling and cursing. So at $150, it might be much cheaper than other hotels in the area. However, it wasn’t worth the savings.

Booked a non smoking room. We’ll we got a smoking room was told that was all they had. No breakfast no microwave. The desk lady Sue was rude and told us we could go somewhere else. Ended up leaving early because the room was so disgusting unfortunately it was a busy weekend and all other hotels were sold out. Never again would give 0 starts if I could.

A last minute stay in a cheap motel happens when other lodging is difficult to find or too expensive. When we are going to be someplace overnight or for a couple of days we don’t mind them because you can often access your vehicle easily and getting bags to the rooms is often times much easier. When we stay in a motel we expect it be be just okay. That’s part of the deal. This however was nearly uninhabitable. The motel had holes in the ceiling above the shower, and a hole in the bathroom title floor big enough for a small animal to burrow through. The handle to the bathroom was hanging off the door. The outlets were dirty and looked like they might short any minute causing a three alarm fire. The bathtub shower fixture was rusted. The water never got hot the entire stay, just like warm. The beds sit on a sheet metal frame which you are constantly clanging into and the sound is unnerving. There is no way these rooms pass any inspection for safety or basic health. Stay elsewhere.
