We just booked our next Summer stay and I realized I never posted a review from our first visit! We had a wonderful stay last July. Beautiful location. Friendly staff. Close enough to walk into town or they have a wonderful trolley. We can't wait for our next visit!

First time visit to The Dunes and it was great despite the blustery weather. The warm hospitality and little touches included a hot thermos of coffee, local pastries and The NY Times newspaper every morning was a joy to look forward to. The fireplace, lots of sunlight, amenities including s’mores at the fire pit and hot apple cider in the afternoons at the Lodge. A shout out to Lynn for her help, warmth and friendliness during our stay!!

My husband and I stayed at the Dunes On the Waterfront for 5 days. It was a wonderful and relaxing vacation! The grounds, river, beach, and sunrises all beautiful. Relaxing in the porch was peaceful looking at the water and the grounds. The front staff were welcoming, helpful and friendly. We had a problem with the lock on the door and we went to the front desk, they came to the cottage and saw that the lock was broken and sent for a locksmith who arrived within minutes and fixed/replaced the lock. Great and quick service! There are plenty of nice restaurants within walking distance from the Dunes. The Lobster Pound Restaurant, which was recommended by the Dunes - is a five minute walk from the grounds, it was great! The whole experience at the Dunes was fantastic from the moment we arrived until the day that we left. Highly recommend the Dunes when visiting Maine/Ogunquit! We can't wait to go back! Thank you Dunes!

Historic loveliness! Love all they’ve done to update the cottages. The new bicycles are so adorable and fun! We loved the breakfast baskets and looked forward to it each day. The grounds were so gorgeous and the sunset and sunrise took my breath away and even caused me to tear up from the overwhelming views.

We recently hosted a family gathering for a special birthday at the Dunes. From the moment we arrived, we knew this was a truly special place. We were simply blown away by the graciousness of the staff, the beautiful setting, countless thoughtful touches and of course the tasteful, understated and beautiful cottages. The cottages were nestled around the property, some under the trees and all focused on the manicured grounds and the beautiful view across the tidal river, barrier beachfront and out to the open ocean. Each cottage we stayed in was in near perfect condition, some with wonderful screen porches, and all with immaculate housekeeping and furnished with quintessential Maine cottage furnishings and an impressive array of snacks and drinks (all included). Each morning breakfast is delivered with your choice of hot beverages, warm pastry, juice and newspaper in a tote with insulated bottles to keep everything warm. The property offers a host of activities from beach bikes, kayaks, pool, lawn games, water taxi and golf cart to the surrounding area and a fire pit with S’mores packages ready to roast. What makes the property truly special though is the staff, from the reception desk (Sylvia, Tammy thank you!), housekeeping and even grounds personnel, we were greeted with smiles and and a clear mission to see that we were comfortable and well taken care of. The review system only allows me to give this property 5 stars but I would give it 100 if I could! We are eagerly looking forward to another visit.

Magical experience that exceeded our expectations! The perfect idyllic setting for a Maine coastal experience. You basically have your own private beach! Special shout out to Laura, our pontoon captain. This property focuses on providing the guests a special experience with many little touches that separate it from others! From breakfast baskets left hanging on our cottage door to badminton and corn hole by the s’mores fire! Reserve your special experience ASAP!

Our family of 5 had an unforgettable stay here. This was a last minute end of summer trip and it turned out to be one of the most special trips we've had in a while thanks to the Dunes. The property is amazing - ideally located close to town and a popular beach, but situated in a way that it feels like you are in your own world. Everything has been updated and decorated with impeccable taste and attention to detail. There are little touches that make an easy, comfortable stay at every turn. Best of all, the staff and service are exceptional. It feels like the epitome of "great service is felt but not seen". We were consistently accommodated above and beyond expectations, but in a way that felt natural like staying with thoughtful friends who want to ensure you have a great time but don't want to be in the way. I didn't think Maine would be an annual trip for us, but now I hope it will be!

We had a great stay at the Dunes! The property is beautiful and the cottages are well-designed, thoughtful, and clean. The shuttle boat across to the beach was very convenient and enjoyable. The captain was very good and entertaining. The bikes were an added bonus and ended up being one of our favorite parts of the stay. We were able to bike to and from town easily. Highly recommend a stay at the Dunes!

At the end of our stay, our family put down a deposit for August 2024, for what would have been our 10th summer. In late January 2024 we were called and told that massive changes were underway and that instead of the +/- $425/night unit, the only alternative would be $2400/night. This is just outrageous. Not only are the prices now laughably and inappropriately high, the place is being gutted. All of the historic and authentic charm is gone. Join the Dunes on the Waterfront Facebook GROUP where 80 and counting former loyal guests who had visited the Dunes for generations have gone to mourn. Since we were in no position to pay 10k for less than a week’s stay in a place with no kitchen (they’re removing the kitchens!), we asked for our deposit back. A month later we are still waiting for our refund…. We looked for a new place to stay, but options are limited as many were sold out by the time the Dunes finally dropped this news on us. The new ownership is SKETCHY. All former positive reviews are for a Dunes that has been killed off by a greedy developer.

I started visiting The Dunes 14 years ago. It was a beautiful, peaceful, and authentic bit of true Maine. Well, now the new owner has thoughtlessly destroyed this rare gem (for the sake of the almighty dollar) and this place as we knew it is gone forever. As an architect, I can guarantee you that what was there before can never be built back again the same way, with the same historic charm. It will now be a cartoonish version of a "pretend Maine", and with the new exorbitant prices at four figures per night, only the extremely wealthy will be able to go to this place. It is lost forever to the people who have loved it for decades, and to those who never had a chance to visit. The cottages were incredibly charming, with their vintage wooden screened porches and Adirondack chairs on the grass. (I found out later that my stepmother and her sister grew up going to the dunes back in the 1930s, and much of the place that I remember was similar to what she remembered). Well, not so anymore. This is a terrible loss on so many different levels. Just shameful.
