I just can't say enough about this small campground. They are simply amazing, wonderful people. Beautiful campsite, the log cabins are great. The value is wonderful can't beat it anywhere. It's always very clean. There really isn't much noise. Most camp sites are usually silent. Service is amazing. They always have something going on especially for the kids. Ample room for everyone. They have an outdoor pool heated all year and a little playground for the kids as well as a small recreational room for kids and adults. Their location is ideal for Downtown Williamsburg as well as lots of shopping and Bush Gardens and Water Country USA. The staff is extremely knowledgeable about the area. Give them a try.

We had a very nice week camping with 4 grandkids the staff are always pleasant and any issues are immediately addressed they go out of their way to make their campgrounds family friendly. April 2026 will 14 yrs we've been going to Anvil restrooms are always clean and well stocked they have a heated pool and a nice size playground where kids can play make camping friends in a safe area they also have a game room which is geared towards older kids but my 2 yr old grandson had plenty of fun playing a video game even though he didn't understand. The other campers I've come in contact with are friendly as well we say good morning some will chat I highly recommend Anvil campgrounds there is a train that comes through day and night but not constantly will bother some we camp in a tent but we've gotten used to it that it doesn't faze us anymore I'm sure it's not as bad in a camper. I say give them a try if their not a good fit nothing lost but I do believe Chris and Raymond along with the rest of the staff just might win you over.

I can’t say enough good things about this place! The owners/operators were literally the nicest people I have ever dealt with at a campground! They are in the middle of a remodel but within a few hours you didn’t even notice. They went out of their way to make sure you were happy but the attention to details was what really hooked us! The kids loved being pulled around in the little train, the playground was amazing and the pool was warm and lovely! Everything was really clean, which is important to me. We all loved the history of the place which went well with the Colonial Williamsburg! So many fun things to do, we had a great 4 days!

This was our 3rd stay at Anvil Campground. Always enjoyable, this time was special, Anvil scheduled Saturday 6pm as a time for trick or treat for the kids. We dressed up as 18th century soldier & wife as we greeted the kids. Staff is great, always helpful on phone and in person. We will be returning in December

I've now stayed here two separate times in September 2025 and October 2025 and I plan to return in February 2026. I do not have a trailer or travel home so I rent the Apprentice cabins there are three (3) of them. I absolutely love the location. The Cabins are great, although if you stay in one be prepared to have to leave to go to the bathhouse for the rest rooms. The cabins do not have bathrooms. They are designed for solo, small families and can sleep up to 6 people. Atmosphere is of a quiet hole in the wall camp site. Cleanliness is superb. The price is right and the employees are wonderful people and they remember you each time you go back.

Excellent location closer to everything yet far enough away to still be camping! Overall the campground is not very large but the space has been used to its maximum potential and without complaint. Staff could not be nicer.

This is a nice little campground. Please note its size, but that was a plus for us! It is tricky with a big fifth but doable. I can’t speak enough about how friendly the staff are, wonderful to walk around. They have a nice play area for the kids that’s actually sand so it’s very beach like- they loved it! We had a premium site and the swing, table patio was a nice addition. The store was surprisingly well stocked and fair priced. Also they do a ton of activities for the kiddos! I took away stars however for the following reasons: Check with the desk about your premium site- the patio for ours was behind the coach instead of walking out the door onto a patio. I believe some are under the awning area but ours wasn’t, maybe due to the size of our unit? There is also no light by the patio- not advertised so no points taken there but would be nice. Going back to a small campground, it’s very homey until…..your slides open right onto your neighbors awning- very narrow. We also weren’t a fan of the “privacy” walls for the patio- if you sit on the swing you look directly into someone’s camper or they looking at you. Also regarding privacy we could be having dinner on our patio and have random kids /family playing ball in the grass feet away so the lawn area is not separated from the patio. One other area is the inaccuracy of photos- some are years old- for instance there is no longer an orange and rattan seating area by the pool but it looks as if maybe it were moved to the store area? The next complaint might seem snooty but there shouldn’t be weeds growing in the stone that has the “decorative” bushes. I did see someone spraying but it’s futile. Little things like that make it seem run down. There are cute plastic decorative stones though, cliche but fun! The bathrooms are nice but the men’s room seemed to have an issue with removing the steam. There’s a box fan up on the sinks but when I look up there are exhaust fans in each stall, maybe they are just not working. I almost feel like once this was voted the best by someone the grounds became less manicured, solely my opinion but we all thought it was significantly different from online photos. Not the campgrounds fault but the tv is snowy at times, great WiFi though! Lastly this could be a profit con for some. For us it was a pro others it could be a deal breaker. The freight train is literally steps from the campground and is so loud it at times shook the couch. We loved it watching to see if they were full, empty, how many locomotives even leaned that some are put in the middle. We really liked looking out the window and watching it go by- I’ll admit it woke me up once or twice but not Anvils fault. Others might find this a complete annoyance.

We loved the convenience of being close to almost everything we wanted to do in the area. Very nice, well maintained campground. Most importantly, the owners and staff are so kind, helpful and genuinely friendly. They are always ready to assist with suggestions and recommendations as well as service in the campground. We will be back!!

Probably the friendliest and helpful staff we have experienced in our travels. We have reserved a return in October and December

We stayed at Anvil to be close to Bush Gardens, Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. It was great for that purpose. The icing on the cake was the staff, clean restrooms and condition of the campsites.
