Many thanks to the staff and assistants near the canyon, for recommending a wetsuit! The water is not warm! Very beautiful! I liked it very much! Thank you! We love Abkhazia and we come here more than once.

The place is very beautiful and very dangerous, with a strong current.
The downsides are the organizational issues with the company, who knows who, who sits there and charges incomprehensible fees, supposedly for the paved road to the canyon (200 rubles per person, impossible to drive on by car because you have to cross the river twice). They force you to bring wetsuits, which are full of holes and don't work (they get wet). SUPs are completely unnecessary there; the canyon is narrow, the current is strong, and it's impossible to pass people. Life jackets are not provided.
I strongly advise against going with small children. The slippery rocks and current can knock even an adult off their feet.

The Khashupsa Canyon is an incredible place in Abkhazia.
So, we took a private transfer from Old Gagra, costing 5,000 rubles. The drive takes about 40-50 minutes (the road is bumpy, so we traveled at a slow speed while taking in the beautiful views).
Upon arrival, you pay an entrance fee of 400 rubles per person.
The descent and return trip cost 300 rubles per person, but you can walk down (we did this for 7 minutes).
Next, to see all the beauty, there are several options: paddleboarding (for an additional fee), walking along the river in a wetsuit (for an additional fee), or viewing the Canyon from above (but then you won't see the full beauty).
We took one paddleboard and took turns paddling. The water was icy and the current was strong, but it was worth it. If you walk along the river in a wetsuit, the depth is chest-deep in places. If you don't know how to paddleboard, it's best not to risk it, as there are cascades that a beginner won't be able to handle.
On the way back, you float downstream and admire the beauty of the canyon.
I recommend it to everyone.

A very beautiful and cool canyon when it's empty and before the rains and mudslides. We were there in June 2024 and the water wasn't great, but when the water is calm it's even more beautiful.

I'd like it if there weren't those strange beggars at the entrance to the canyon, stupidly collecting money from tourists. If you want to collect the environmental tax, then install a cash register instead of extorting money; it looks like some kind of scam.
