I have stayed in 9 hostels in Cairns, and this is the best one. I’ll break it down point by point:
1. In most hostels, there is only one kitchen, so sometimes you have to wait a long time to cook. In this hostel, there are three kitchens — two big ones and one small one. If you’re an introvert, you can use the small kitchen; if you’re a social person, the big kitchens are perfect.
2. The staff keep the kitchen very clean, and every guest must write their name on their food. Otherwise, every Wednesday the staff clean out unnamed food from the fridge. This system keeps the fridge clean and ensures there is always space.
3. There are four bathrooms, and each one has a small hanging chair/shelf to put your belongings, which is very comfortable and convenient. Every bathroom has a mirror, which is very important, especially for women. The bathrooms are also very clean.
4. The maximum capacity in each room is only 4 people, and the room smells fresh. I’m very picky about rooms because I know some hostels don’t care about keeping the rooms smelling clean and fresh.
5. The common areas are also very clean and well maintained
6. Swimming pools not so big but enough to swim for 3-5 people at the same time ☺️

I enjoyed my stay here; the staff were friendly, and the people who lived there were too.
What I didn't like was that they charged for air conditioning. I don't usually use cash, and one night I ran out of coins and had to sleep with the midsummer heat suffocating me.
I stayed in four hostels during my time in Cairns, and this was the only one that did that.

Amazing amazing little place! Totally a gem! Definitely recommend staying here! Sooo cute and beautiful and relaxing!

Great experience here! Ended up staying for a week and it was so nice. Really great set up, clean, homely, and really comfortable everywhere you sat. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

We had a great time here. The price is okay. Everything was really clean, what is really important to me. The quality of the beds could be a bit better. They matrasses are a bit thin. The owners are handsome. It is quiet at night. The location is great, close to the trainstation (and our dive centre). So in total everything was great! 1 star les for the quality of the beds and maybe and maybe the price can be a little lower :) i should say: go here.

The communal spaces and our bedroom were tidy, clean and comfortable. Cosy backpackers with friendly staff and not noisy. We had a mix up with our card being charged twice but the staff quickly fixed the problem.

Dreamtime Travellers Rest is located in proximity to Cairns City Centre, making it easy to go out and reach everything. The rooms are quite spacious and are equipped with fans. The property also has a little pool, and lots of comfortable resting areas that are accessible to all guests.
As it’s super warm in Cairns, it would have been even nicer if the air conditioning could be used free of charge! :)

Absolutely loving this place! Paul, the owner, is very friendly and accommodating. Rooms are comfortable and clean. The bathroom and toilet is impeccable. It’s quiet and there’s a chill atmosphere; way better than some other, louder backpacker hostels. There’s also multiple kitchens with more than enough equipment. I would 100% stay again!
note you have to pay with a $1 coin to run the AC for about 3 hours. You can buy coins at the reception.

Such a lovely place. I stayed in Cairns way longer than I thought I would just because I loved the hostel so much. It’s such a vibe and Paul and Tim (the team) are wonderful! I met lots of nice people here :) I hope to come back soon.

Beautiful hostel, from far the best in Cairns. Tim and Paul are really nice and make you feel like home. Everything is always clean, pool well looked after and kitchen well equipped. We are always staying when we are in Cairns!

Had to pay $4 for some hot water to heat my baby's bottle when I was willing to pay for a drink for myself. I also gave the container for the water, which returned dirty. When asked to clean the supervisor rolled her eyes at me.

I've had the worst service in here. Thanks for your lady manager. I just asked an extra cup when I got me meal. If it's not acceptable thing, I'm very sorry. That was the worst face and service I ever had. Thanks again to your RACIST lady manager

Very poor. No s/s sauce came with order. Nuggets were cold - inedible. Fries luke warm. Threw it all out. Never again

6:50 tonight, order meal deal, get told there are no fries, but we can do onion rings, so I say ok to that. Waiting for my meal I notice that there is an 80c charge for onion rings on my docket. When my food is delivered, I ask about the charge and the Duty manager says Yes, we charge for that, I ask then what about the meal deal with NO fries, so no substitution. Asked for my money back and he says, what the 80c? Got it all back and left, terrible customer service, and they were probably doing that all day. What a rip off.
