U Eat & Sleep Antwerp in Antwerp

We were really looking forward to visiting U Eat & Sleep in Antwerp, but unfortunately our experience was extremely disappointing.

From the very beginning, the manager — who was also acting as the waiter — gave us a cold and unfriendly welcome. When taking our order, we chose one entrecôte and two fillets, all requested well done. He repeatedly questioned our choice, insisting on “medium?” despite our clear explanation.

When the dishes arrived, they were not served at the same time. The entrecôte was rare, one fillet was well done, and the other was medium rare. We therefore asked for the entrecôte to be cooked more (well done). This request triggered an unpleasant reaction: the manager started complaining and said the meat would become “like chewing gum,” using an inappropriate tone.

When we also asked for the fillet to be cooked again, he became even more irritated and started raising his voice. After a second attempt, the entrecôte was still only medium rare. When we calmly asked why he was shouting, he began shouting again and made racist remarks, which is completely unacceptable.

This kind of behavior seriously damages the image and values usually associated with the Michelin Guide.

A major disappointment, both in terms of service and basic respect toward customers

Very disappointing experience.

We had a misunderstanding about how the meat was cooked, which can happen in any restaurant. Unfortunately, instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager/waiter was extremely rude and dismissive toward us. There was no attempt to listen, explain calmly, or find a solution.

Good service is about communication and respect, especially when an issue arises. Sadly, that was completely missing here. The attitude we received ruined the entire experience, regardless of the food itself.

I would not recommend this place based on how customers are treated when something goes wrong.

PS: this meat is supposed to be well done lol !

Absolutely unacceptable. The manager is rude, aggressive, and openly shouts at customers. Zero professionalism, zero respect. I have never experienced such behavior in any establishment. You are treated with more dignity in a shack than in this place. Completely disgraceful. Avoid at all costs.

Waiter started to take a phone call in the middle of taking our order.
Drinks were good, but for roughly an hour no one came to the table after we got the first round of drinks.
Apart from that friendly service.

The restaurant is extremely ******. You’ll be ignored for at least 30 minutes before anyone even acknowledges you. When the server finally approaches, he won't take your order. Instead of politely suggesting options, he will choose for you without asking just because they don't have excatly what you want. After that, you’ll wait another 30 to 45 minutes, watching as everyone else—both those who came before and after you—gets their food and drinks, while you, along with the only other couple of color, are left completely neglected.
