The location is perfect for a first visit to Dali right in the heart of the charming Old Town, with restaurants and shops just a 2–3 minute walk away. Despite being so central, the hotel is tucked away on a quiet street, so the rooms are peaceful. The building is old but full of character and beautifully maintained. Everything was very clean, and the staff were warm, friendly, and welcoming.
The only downside is the sound insulation. Since it’s a historic building, you can clearly hear footsteps from the room above, so if you’re a light sleeper, I recommend requesting a room on the top floor.
One suggestion for improvement is the travel advice provided by the hotel. A staff member kindly helped me book my Cangshan Mountain ticket, but some important details were missing. I was encouraged to go all the way to the summit without being told that it would be much colder, often very foggy with limited views, and at a much higher altitude with noticeably thinner air. I also wasn’t told that I needed to enter a specific cable car station in Didi searching for “Cangshan Mountain” takes you to the main entrance, about 12 km from where my ticket was booked, which made my trip unnecessarily stressful. The staff member was genuinely kind and trying to help, but I recommend doing your own research before taking her advice and recommendations.

Really enjoyed the vibe here at Dali Old Yard Boutique Inn. Very clean, comfort, and service is excellence; within the 大理古镇
* The staff were friendly and attentive right from the moment we checked in. The room was clean, we received a free upgrade on our 2nd night - totally enjoyed the suite.
* We needed to catch early morning train. Staff prepared our breakfast way before their official breakfast timing. We are really appreciative.

The B&B is located right inside Dali Ancient Town, making it very convenient for exploring. However, I would like to remind everyone not to go through the wrong gate like I did; always enter through the South Gate. If you're taking public transportation, don't use Amap Navigation and enter through the other gate. The stairs aren't very convenient, as the South Gate is a flat path, allowing you to park your suitcase and walk right in.
The courtyard is quite beautiful, and the owner is very welcoming. Although I didn't see him during my two-day stay, I felt his warmth. For Dali Ancient Town, this is a very good value. The B&B is also perfectly located, very close to the South Gate. Turning left outside the door leads to a square with lively evening bonfire parties. The street beyond the entrance is essentially the main street of Dali Ancient Town, so you can stroll along at your leisure.
