Dali Ancient City (大理古城) has a way of slowing time down. Visiting in December was the right choice; the air was cool, the sky a brilliant blue, and, without the summer rush, the usual tourist crowds were much lesser.
We spent our short one hour, simply wandering the stone-paved streets, framed by the towering city gates and the distant Cangshan Mountains.
The wide walkways made for a very comfortable stroll, allowing us to take in the beautiful Bai-style architecture and hidden courtyards at our own pace.
If you’re looking for a peaceful escape where you can actually breathe and enjoy the scenery, Dali in the winter is hard to beat.
