Hôtel Escurial - Centre Gare in Metz

I've stayed in some of the big name hotel chains in Metz and none of them were that great. Hotel Escurial turned out to be an excellent and affordable alternative. The room was warm and cozy (and Metz was very cold) and on a par with hotel room sizes typical of Paris. I was at the front with a large floor to ceiling window and small balcony and it was completely silent. The bed was super comfy, the room was kept spotless, there was a fridge (always a bonus) and the staff were delightful. It's also only a few minutes walk from the station and a 15-20 min stroll to the old town. I would definitely stay here again. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because I am not a fan of wall mounted hairdryers! My hair takes ages to dry and they never really do the job and got hot to hold. At the time of booking it was cheaper to book directly with the hotel than with any of the usual booking sites so worth checking the hotel's website for prices.

I like to talk about my experiences in hotels, and I'm taking the liberty of pointing out the pros and cons, knowing that these are only details, but to add something extra or perhaps something to think about.
Let's start with the cons.
The bathroom lacks an electrical outlet that could plug in a razor or toothbrush, for example.
The television is smaller than what we would find in a hotel of this caliber.
The breakfast pastries are certainly not baked fresh.
The pros.
A very professional welcome, especially with a smile, was excellent, explaining everything we needed to know.
The hotel amenities are pleasant, with easy access to the elevator and the rooms.
The room itself is very welcoming, clean, and the bed is very comfortable.
The bathroom is very decent, with a bathtub that doubles as a shower. The added bonus is the handle, which makes it easier to get in and out of the bathtub.
The well-designed bathtub mat is reassuring and prevents slipping.
The separation of the toilet and bathroom by, you might say, another room is also a plus.
The breakfast is fantastic; there's something for everyone. Some products are unique, if not never found anywhere else.
The morning staff is also very welcoming. From the greeting, did you sleep well, and were you satisfied with the room? I say congratulations for those little words that make you want to come back, when necessary, of course.
To conclude, if I had to give a score from 1 to 10, I would give it a 9.

We stayed there with friends. It’s good price-quality ratio. But rooms are clean, breakfast is very nice and enough choice. Staff friendly, nice walking distance to the city. I think we would go back

Very central hotel. Convenient to downtown especially if walking. The girl at the front desk was very kind to give us a waking map of the area. Since we were only there for 1 night, (& arrived late) we were able to park on the street right around the corner from the hotel, which is free till 9am. In the morning we paid for 2 hours to walk a bit and see the Cathedral. The room was small, but good for one night. My only complaints were even though the place was spotless, the bathroom still had a bad smell. The other was the same thing many others have complained about: the pillows. Get new ones because those are terrible. I put together my jacket and sweatshirt for more support. Good price and location tho, so good for one night.

I stayed here 3 nights. The bed was comfortable and the staff was extremely friendly. On the first night they said they gave me a complementary upgrade which I think was a king sized bed instead of a smaller bed. I don’t really have any reasons to give less stars because my experience was great. I stay in a lot of hotels and the rooms definitely were basic as far as carpet quality etc. Because this is a cheaper hotel, its probably more likely to be a last minute choice for most people.. despite that, I only heard minimal noise.

Rooms were basic but clean. The staff with friendly and helpful. I was able to park bike inside lobby (secure area).
The breakfast was just ok. The selection was limited and not everything was fresh. The coffee was good!

Five stars, rooms are okay, Wifi working, bed is spacious, room is cleaned everyday. Breakfast is standard. I was leaving very early before breakfast and the reception guy asked me if i would like to have breakfast, he can serve it. This is very nice hospitality i would say. I walked a lot to city center, as its quite near. sncf train station is just 7 minutes walk.
all in all good hotel worth the price, decor is old BUT hotel staff is very friendly.
