My booking was made by phone, and confirmation came via email. Waldhotel Soodener Hof. The hotel is in a quiet location. Breakfast was good and plentiful: rolls, cold cuts, jam, cheese, hot eggs, and coffee. That was unfortunately all. My room was musty and freezing cold because the heating wasn't working. I was shivering. The hallways had no lights. The entire spa area was freezing cold. The sauna could only be used with prior reservation, but that wouldn't have helped anyway, as the entire spa area was a solid block of ice. I then called the mobile number provided to reception; this was the owner, and I reported the problems. He said he would take care of it. Hours later, a staff member came and informed me about a room change to another building. He helped me pack my suitcase; I was shivering with cold. Using my phone's flashlight, we crept along the hallway to the other building. I spent the night there. The heating was working, but the walls were still very cold. The next morning, I met another staff member. She prepared breakfast, and I spoke with her. During our conversation, she explained that it was a long-standing problem: many rooms lacked heating or hallway lighting, others had toilets that didn't flush, and so on. My first room was apparently known for these issues. The employee advised me to call the manager, but he wasn't answering the phone. She also told me that many guests complained. She said she repeatedly reported the problems to the manager, but they were ignored. Since we had visited the spa area together again, she tried to turn on the heating, but it didn't work; everything was freezing cold. I then asked to leave. The manager told her I could leave and, in his opinion, should pay €50 as a gesture of goodwill. I didn't comply, but instead had a roof over my head for the night, two rolls, and a cup of coffee, which I paid €30 for. The manager then wrote to me saying that I didn't set the prices and that he would be sending the whole matter to a debt collection agency. I responded to him asking if he was aware that he had literally ruined my entire vacation. There wasn't even an apology. I had a two-hour commute. My €86 for the salt cave, which I had booked and paid for the day before, was unfortunately gone, and I didn't get a refund. That was actually the main reason for my stay there.

Ultimately, it was just heartbreaking. I was booked into a hotel that was already known to have problems. I certainly wouldn't recommend it.

Addendum to my review: Four days after my departure, I received a bill for the total amount of €650, which I was supposed to pay within a specified timeframe. I then contacted my legal counsel. They drafted a letter stating that nothing was owed. A week later, I received another text message saying that everything was now being forwarded to a debt collection agency. After weeks, I received an email from my legal counsel stating that everything was being dropped because the other party hadn't responded.

What more can be said?

A somewhat dated hotel that seems to be undergoing ongoing modernization. Unfortunately, cleanliness leaves much to be desired. Spiders on the ceiling weren't removed for three days. The ashtrays on the terrace weren't cleaned. The hotel is accessible via a very steep driveway. Parking is quite expensive at €6 per day. Sadly, the restaurant has closed, which wasn't apparent when booking. The pool is on the first floor and wasn't very clean there either. Unfortunately, there are no changing facilities in the pool area. Breakfast was okay, and egg dishes were freshly prepared upon request. Drinks were available from a refrigerator at any time and were billed on the day of departure. A coffee machine was also available for afternoon coffee. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Only partially recommended for people with mobility issues, as there is no elevator. The breakfast area is very nice and spacious with a wraparound terrace and a fantastic view of the town.
