Alte Schmiede in Jork

I'm only reviewing the food here, as I was there solely for dining.

While searching for a German restaurant, I came across the Alte Schmiede in Jork. At first glance, both the prices and the menu seemed reasonable. I ordered a Wiener Schnitzel with a large Sinalco Coke for €15.70.

The food and drink were served quickly, which was a plus. However, only four of the 52 available seats were occupied, including mine. The ambiance itself is pleasant and attractively designed.

Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The fries were so overcooked that they practically crumbled when I tried to spear them with a fork, with pieces flying off. Taste is certainly subjective; some like them crispy, others softer, but it wasn't to my liking.

The schnitzel also had a slight fishy taste, which leads me to suspect that the schnitzel and fish dishes are fried in the same oil.

Overall, it wasn't a very enjoyable dining experience for me. It was more like eating fast food in a restaurant setting. The overall impression was further marred by the fact that the waiter was sitting behind the counter eating himself while talking in another language through the kitchen door to a woman (presumably an employee). Meanwhile, she was preparing something with sugar and regularly licking her fingers – not a particularly appetizing sight.

All in all, my visit was unfortunately disappointing. I won't be eating there again in the future.
