Reviews
Nice area to explore either walking or cycling and was very close to walk to the ferry on Rursee to go on to Rurburg.
The hotel is situated at the end of a road and is in a very quiet location. We parked at the bottom of a hill and had to hike up to the hotel with our bags (good for your fitness!). You could drive up closer to the entrance if needed.
We had been sent an email with a code to get our key out of a lockbox at the entrance, but completely forgot about this when we arrived. Tobias greeted us and gave us our key. He also explained about the drinks and food area. Drinks are taken based on an honesty system- you write down what drinks you had and then pay for them when you check-out.
The room and bathroom was quite small, but this honestly didn't bother us. It is a little dated, but very clean. The bed was a bit creaky, but still very comfortable. It was very quiet overnight.
We had a buffet dinner and breakfast- both were very good.
There is lots of hiking and cycling in the area. The hotel is not far from a large reservoir where you can take boat ride around or hike/run/cycle.
The pension was everything I hoped for and expected. It is in the perfect rural location, ideal for those hoping to enjoy all that this area offers. We arrived in the evening and I was pleased to smell familiar German cooking, although we had already eaten. The check-in was quick and simple and the room more than adequate offering a comfortable bed, white sheets and towels. The view in the morning from the balcony inspired a few photos before breakfast. The breakfast was traditional German food in a buffet format with plenty of choice. I could have stayed for more than the one night, but had a busy schedule ahead of me.
I arrived after a 24 km hike, all day in the rain. Wet and cold. To check-in you get a code for a key box, enter the code and a key is given. Turned out I have room 8. I enter the pension, no one there. All lights turned off. So far a nice and friendly welcome. I received the code by email, all in German. I think they are blaming covid-19 for the warm welcome. Nonsense IMO. Otter pensions had a normal welcome at the reception.
The room is small but clean. Outdated but that is okay. However, no toilet in the room. According to my reservation there was only a shared bathroom. There is one toilet on the first floor for five or six rooms. I can use the shower in the basement with the pool. Not on the same floor or close to the room. Pretty disappointing again.
It turns out the restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday. No alternatives are offered. I can only reach out by email or WhatsApp to the owners. I asked for an alternative and within minutes I get a reply via WhatsApp.Within a 1km walk is a restaurant. To my big surprise, when I leave there are people (guests?) Having dinner in the restaurant? Would it have been too much to have one plate extra?
The bed is small, I am 188, and I have to keep my legs bend. I slept well but woke up the morning because of other guests. The walls are thin and you can hear the other guests talking, walking around, etc. Also, the mattress is very soft and feels like it is very old.
I could not find anything about breakfast, which time it starts. Nothing in the lobby and I don't know where the reception is. It turns out there is a paper in my room telling me when the breakfast buffet is open. Breakfast is good. They also offer lunch.
Overall, a disappointing experience. And not a place I would recommend for hikers! I will not return here. I don't understand why this pension is mentioned on the website of National Park Eifel
