Hotel Royal Plaza in Rimini

We were deeply disappointed by the treatment we received during breakfast. While Italian guests enjoyed personal table service with freshly brewed coffee, the staff informed us from the second day onwards that we had to use a poorly equipped self-service machine in the corner.

It was a clear case of preferential treatment based on nationality. We watched the staff continue to serve Italian guests at their tables while we were pointed to a machine that didn't even have spoons provided. This blatant double standard is unacceptable for a 4-star hotel. It made us feel like second-class citizens. If you are not Italian, expect inferior service. Would not recommend

BE CAREFUL OF ADDITIONAL PAYMENTS

We checked into the hotel, and the listing clearly stated that the price included all taxes. At check-in, no one from the staff mentioned anything about an additional city tax. However, upon check-out, they suddenly demanded an extra payment, and did so in quite a rude manner.

When we asked why it wasn’t mentioned on Booking.com that there would be an extra charge (many hotels state clearly that you’ll need to pay a city tax on arrival), we were simply ignored and told that it was “not their problem” that we didn’t know about the tax. When we pointed out that they could have indicated this on Booking.com, and that they should have informed us before check-in, we were dismissively told, “Well, sorry, we forgot — but you still have to pay.”

It is completely normal to pay a city tax upon arrival, but the hotel must also indicate this in the price breakdown. On Booking.com this can easily be done, and the fact that the hotel does not show the real total price (and does not specify the amount of the city tax) — then informs guests only after check-out — is not the law or Booking.com’s policy (they are trying to lie to you, claiming it’s not their fault but Booking’s). It is simply a lack of care for service and a misleading pricing practice.

The hotel itself is average (not terrible, but nothing special), yet the service was poor. Communication was nonexistent, and there wasn’t even an attempt to have a constructive dialogue with the guest. We were even told, quite openly, “Well, if you want, go ahead and write a bad review.”
