Hotello Hostel in Trieste

I liked the location, it is just perfect, city centre and 5 min walk from the train station. The price was reasonable. What I didn’t like is that the place absolutely uncomfortable to eat your meals, I don’t even mean to cook it, just warm up and have a cup of tea. There’s a microwave and a kettle on the ground floor, but there’s no shared dishes and cups, you could probably ask for plastic ones at the bar. What’s worse is that the tables next to the microwave are not meant to eat your stuff, it is for the bar only. I arrived at the hotel pretty late, very tired and wanted to eat my food from the supermarket. I only approached those tables to prepare meals for the microwave and I got a strict comment from the stuff that there’s no way I could sit at the table even though the bar was closed.
I was suggested to take my food upstairs to the meeting room after it’s warmed up. It was the same for breakfast, even worse, as the small buffet area with chairs was reserved for groups, tables are for the bar. I would probably order breakfast there and sit at the table but they served just sandwiches and croissants, no eggs, salads etc.
Rooftop terrace was closed for renovation, so I couldn’t get the view I hoped for.

Pretty nice hostel with the great location. Modern style, cafe at the lobby, elevator, air conditioner. Stuff at the reception was great! Rooms was full. And as always available problems with uncultured roomates. Bonus: 6 person in single room and 6 different opinions about air conditioner :)

Staff was super nice. I only stayed one night, but found the shower situation slightly annoying (water everywhere in the bathroom after 30 seconds of showering). Unlike other comments say, they now allow you to stay in the bar without consuming anything as long as it’s not super busy, and there’s an outside area that you can be in without ordering anything

Decent for the price. Close to stations. Rooms are full, 12 people in a room. I got unlucky and had some very unpleasant and inconsiderate roommates (poor hygiene and snorers/multiple alarms that they didn’t turn off)

The shower wasn’t great and bathroom was cramped. I didn’t shower there as it was a single night and I just needed a bed.

Storage is spacious.

Beds have poor privacy. There are big gaps in the curtains. This morning I was on my phone and some young guy was just staring at me through the curtain?? Weird.

Staff are fine at least the hostel staff. Bar staff seem a bit different. They seem to be a bar for locals that has a hostel attached.

No proper kitchen just a microwave and a fridge. Not what you want in a hostel honestly.

Other than that it wasn’t bad. I think it’s fine for a night or two.

Hotello is located near the Trieste Train Station and central bus station, where local and international travellers arrive and depart. It takes around 7 mins to walk from the hostel to the train and bus stations. Many tourist attractions are easily accessible and it is near the seaside and you can enjoy the spectacular sunset without much hassle. Restaurants, cafes and supermarkets are also within walking distance. The hostel is clean with a blanket and bed sheet provided. You may top up and rent other amenities such as towels. If you travel on shoestring, you may want to bring along your shampoo, shower gel and hair dryer etc to save a few Euros. There is a bar and restaurant which provides food and drinks with a reasonable price.
