Hotel Terme Metropole – Oriental Spa & Resort in Abano Terme

The hotel is not even bad, but in all my years in Abano I have never been told that the pools are no longer usable after checkout, and this is unacceptable to me. The hotel is large and has a beautiful garden with 4 pools, even though most people crowd only one pool, the only one with hydromassage. And here the problems begin, since many of the hydromassage stations do not work well. For example, of the 4 sunbeds arranged in a semicircle, two work, the other two work once and then that's it for several minutes. The same goes for the other sunbeds arranged in a row. It seems like there is a real maintenance problem. There is also a cleaning problem, a horrible greenish halo all around, just above the water level. The young lifeguard, I think his name was Luca, tried to clean it, but the older lifeguard scolded him saying that he had to do it "quickly, not well". My room was classic, nice and quite comfortable. English: But the bathroom is really unsightly, very old and with hideous brown tiles. The shower has separate taps for cold and hot water, something I haven't seen in decades. I don't think a mixer tap is that expensive, especially considering the price you pay for the room. The cleanliness was excellent, the room staff seemed competent. The restaurant, like everything else, is not bad but leaves you perplexed, first of all for the service, whose care is entrusted only to the availability and ability of the waiter, as if there was no direction. For example, at every single meal a waiter took away our wine glasses "because you don't drink anyway", but in reality we consumed wine at every meal, so I don't know where he got this idea from; once he even took the wine glasses we had just drunk from and was about to put them back on the shelf with the clean glasses, only realizing then that they were dirty, fortunately with red wine: if it had been white wine those glasses would have ended up with some other customer, in defiance of the most basic hygiene rules. The quality of the food is also inconsistent: one day the veal cutlet was overcooked, hard as a shoe sole, another day the plate contained black herbs, very bitter and truly inedible; and I could give many other examples. Breakfast is quite varied, but also inconsistent: a huge but very dry chocolate brioche, only good for dipping; the scrambled eggs practically solidified together, like an omelette; on the last day of my stay the scrambled eggs were finally done well, on the other hand the bacon was raw (and therefore very fatty). In short, for the price paid I was not satisfied. With the hotel full, the service collapses. Waiters who take hours, pool bar service that evaporates, pools packed. If you are not able to guarantee consistency in the service, it is enough to sell a few rooms in me

The pictures of the property on ******* do not match reality. A very expensive hotel with rooms that have not been updated since the 90s presumably.

I'll start by saying that as a couple we've already stayed at this hotel twice and we've always had a great time and I'll add that over the years I don't think I've raised my expectations for a hotel that presents itself as 4 stars, but I give the right weight to what is offered to me in proportion to what I pay and past experiences. We wanted to stay there on the 31st and New Year's Eve and, after our phone call, we waited in vain for an email proposal from them that never arrived. At the same time, seeing continuous changes in the online booking and not even finding the menu for the dinner in a place where you pay "enough" seemed strange to me but oh well... we ask for the following days and we are offered a deluxe double room, telling us that it is the last one and has a view of the facilities at the back with a bathtub and oh well. Upon arrival, while waiting for the room, we go to the pool which, together with the SPA, always confirms to be top notch, apart from the excessive heat caused by poor ventilation and the many people. English: The room was clearly a "reserve", with a bad opening badge, very hard beds, pillows not up to par, bathrobes but no slippers, old carpet with obvious old stains, bathroom from "times" gone by (2025: the curtain in the tub is not to be faced!), clean but in obvious need of modernization, as was the rest of the room in its entirety, which has the good size given the category and the price paid. We had excellent memories of the quality and quantity of the restaurant, but today only the memory remains. The service seemed rushed and approximate and not very attentive to food intolerances. The lunch buffet was reduced to simple fresh vegetables and salads, only in the evening it remained up to the level of previous years. The menu was quite simple, nothing exceptional considering the 4 stars. In response to our complaints about some things, the management met us halfway by listening to our (constructive) criticisms and giving us a small discount at the time of payment. In conclusion we think that in light of the price paid and the hypothetical stars, what is offered unfortunately (truly said with regret and displeasure) is absolutely not justified and would need a general modernization especially the rooms, at least ours, and more attention because in this way over the years they risk throwing away what is excellent and everything else that works (indoor and outdoor pools, spa, treatments and staff). In conclusion we are very disappointed by this and honestly I don't know if I will return to this hotel also because if I have to hope to have the "lucky" room then I will go and spend much less in hotels that are still up to their category, where unlike this hotel, I found greater preparation on intolerances/allergies......
