Hotel Double Funabashi in Funabashi

Unfortunately, I would not not recommend staying at this hotel to other visitors. 2 adults / 1 room / 1 night / date: 11/01/2025

- Check-in was quick and seamless. The selection of grab and go complimentary amenities located in the lobby were nice. Face masks, shea butter lotions, combs... and much more.

- The hallways had a noticeable odor to them; however, it wasn't overbearing and could be overlooked.

- Our room had an even stronger odor to it when compared to the hallways. I can only describe the smell as stale/old, dusty and moldy. The bed was very large considering the traditional style bed found in most Japanese lodging options; however, it was unbelievably uncomfortable. Mostly due to the fact the bed caved into the middle, which was visible, you didn't even have to get into the bed to notice it. The sheets were scratchy and not comforting. The pillows and mattress had an obvious yellow tint to them indicating their age. In an effort to bring some fresh air into the room we powered on the A/C which made things so much worse. Our sinuses immediately began to bother us and we had to turn the unit off. It smelled awful and clearly had dirty/moldy components that caused part of the stench in the room. Overall we just felt itchy in the room like it was unclean. The room's air purifier/humidifier was no help with removing the odor in the room. The window was not able to be opened and was frosted (allowed light in but couldn't see out) over with no view of the outside. The room did include numerous face/body/skin care products. The unscented options were a nice touch, as well as the refrigerator and microwave! The hot water had great pressure and was consistently hot.

- We woke early in the morning to an overwhelming odor of cigarette smoke (we had a non-smoking room). It completely filled the room and was unbearable. the room's exhaust fan couldn't clear the air fast enough. This was the final straw, despite checkout not being until 1100, we packed our belongings and left as soon as possible. We simply couldn't be in this room any longer.

- I would describe the value for your money as poor. Our stay for 1 night was 32,637 yen ($212 USD). This included a total discount of 6,157 yen ($40 USD) for booking through the booking.com service. Paying this much for a 1-star hotel is bad enough, but considering the facts mentioned above make this even worse.

The halls have a very strong smell of dust, the bedsheets had stains all over it, and they don’t change sheets (even though us stayed there 4 nights). Overall just a nasty hotel and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Yes, it’s bigger than most hotels in Japan but that’s its only perk and frankly not worth it.
