This hotel has a great location, just a three-minute walk to the Zao bus stop. Although it's a bit old, it's still quite clean. They even cleaned my room and folded my clothes while I was out during the day! Plus, the front desk proactively provides hairdryers. When I came down from Zao with wet hair, they kindly let me use a hairdryer in the lobby, which was fantastic.
The only downside is that I noticed a smoky smell when the heating/AC was on (possibly due to a shared ventilation system). If budget is a concern and you're not staying in Zao, choosing a cheaper hotel near Yamagata Station, then this is a good option.

The location is extremely convenient - just a few minutes' walk from Yamagata Station and the bus stop for Zao Onsen (to which you should get well in advance, by the way). The room was very good, with all amenities in good condition. The staff was very kind, and it is possible to store your luggage for free for a while. Note that there is a breakfast (for 800 yen), but you need to inform the hotel by 20:00 PM the previous day. Overall, great value for money.

The hotel is really old.
The tatami room is dark and didnt felt comfortable.
The floor is rotten, the small piece rotten tatami will stick in your clothes, pants and socks.
Outside the room is freezing especially the bathroom and toilet.
The only good thing is location 2 min from the train station.

The location was great and it was convenient to go anywhere. The breakfast was also good, and I would like to stay again when I go to Yamagata.

A charming, slightly retro-style inn, conveniently located less than a five-minute walk from Yamagata Station!
A hairdryer is provided upon check-in. The room was basic, and even without the lights on, the room felt quite nice with the desk lamp on.

The location is excellent, just a 2-3 minute walk to the left from the Yamagata JR station exit. It's very close to the No. 1 bus stop for Zao, and Kasumi Park is within 1 kilometer, within walking distance. The rooms are clean and spacious, and although a bit old, they are well maintained! Note that the check-in counter is on the 3rd floor, so please pay attention when you go there to avoid getting lost like I did.

Patient and efficient front desk services, efficient for check in and out procedure. Restaurant located at 1-3 floor, very convenient. Also, JR , Shinkansen station nearby, big shopping mall and department store at top of JR station. Good and convenient.

Based on the price I paid, everything is beyond expectations. It's all good.

As a foreigner who has lived in this Country for 38 years I find it very offensive in this day and age for hotel staff to look at me as if I have fallen off a UFO, and be jumpy in my presence at first sight. THAT was the beginning of the nightmare stay in this hotel.
Old, unfriendly, with practically no electrical plugs available in the room. The bed was a nightmare as well.... impossible to sleep in such a mattress, and the pillow was so flat it didn't even serve as a pillow. I will never stay again in this hotel. Then again, you get what you pay for, but this hotel wasn't even worth THAT fee.
I was so angry that couldn't even be bothered to take photos of it.
