I am very glad that I found this place through Booking. This was my first experience of living on a boat, and it was wonderful!

The first thing that impressed me – this boat is very cozy (just like the Netherlands in general). 🙂
It has three floors: the first – cabins, with a bunk bed, a sink, a wardrobe, and a small window almost at the level of the water, so you can wake up and greet the birds that swim up to your cabin.
The second – the main, cozy and comfortable space, where you can hang out, read, eat, and also endlessly drink coffee and tea, which are always on the table.
And the third, on the roof – a wonderful place with benches and chairs, where you can enjoy the beauty of the canal and relax with a nice view of the old architecture.
I am an aesthete, and I love cozy, unusual places that boost creativity and are located within walking distance of the city center, yet still offer a quiet corner of peace. Amicitia completely satisfied this need.

Also, I want to note the breakfast, where there is a choice of sweet and savory food – to make a sandwich, granola, or pancakes with jam and chocolate spread. It was the same every day, but enough for strengthening in the morning, simple and tasty.

From the minuses – the absence of sound insulation, you hear everything that happens around – movement above, snoring, farting behind the wall – everything.
Also, on the second floor the radio was constantly playing. In the cabins it is not heard, but I would be glad if it were twice quieter, as a background, and not as the filling of the space.

Summing up, I want to thank the sailor for this cool experience, which turned out to be so wonderful that I extended my stay for one more day. This place inspires 🤍
I add several photos that I took on the main floor and on the roof of the boat.
I highly recommend Amicitia and I hope to return again.

I found it a charming experience. The location is conveniently near the center (of Haarlem). But I have warn tall people. Cabins, doors, shower, all is small. And yes there is a smell not attractive for all. Also I was alone in my room, two in that room would have been a hassle. The price I paid (€25), breakfast included, makes it I have no right to complain 😊

Eeeew.. this place is just disgusting. I'm so sorry but really.. I don't think I'm that high maintenance but this is too much to process.. the bunk is way too small I felt really claustrophobic.. the air is terrible and it's impossible to make it better because there is only this tiny little round window. The toilets and the showers are like in an old train nobody cares about. Everything looks dirty even though it's probably been cleaned regularly. Honestly I wanted to cry when we arrived and saw it.

Attention!
Very dangerous to stay on the first floor.
There are small window 100x500 mm and there are no ventilation.
So air doesn't come inside.
So you have 50/50 to survive.

Friendly staff and nice warm shower. Very tiny cabin not for the claustrophobic. Bed was as hard as the road and got very little sleep. Good breakfast provided in morning

Nice botel with nice staff. Rooms are not very big but are they ever on boats. Nice different experience to sleep in a boat hotel. Waves has disturbed not at all. I can recommend

When we first arrived we found an envelope with our name on it, that contained the key to our room. When we entered the room we first noticed how very awful it smelled in there, as if there was a lot of mold and the room had been closed for a long time. We opened the window to let in some air, and noticed how a large part of one of the mattresses was soaking wet. We went up and asked the guy working there if he could solve it for us somehow, and he said he'd be right on it. Before we left for our sightseeing we asked him again just to make sure he would do it, and he said he would do it as soon as he could. There may have been some sort of miss in the communication there, because when we came back in the evening the bed was still soaked and couldn't be used. So we have to split a 80cm bed (I am large, so this did not work very well and I got zero sleep and a lot of pain in my back).

The next day we confronted the host and he said that we were not there when he wanted to enter the room, and he's not allowed to just go in. An okay excuse, but he could have informed us about this one of the two times we asked him for help. Surely it can't be unusual for a guest to leave after checking in. We asked him to fix it right away since we were there now, and he said that he couldn't. For the simple reason that he did not have any spare mattresses. What hostel does not have at least one or two spares? We got an extra sheet for the bed, but obviously the water went right through that as well.

We had two friends who stayed at the same hostel, one day less than us. Their room was much better and had a dry mattresses. When they checked out, we asked the host if we could have their mattress or if we could switch to their room since it was now empty. He said no, because he didn't want to clean more than necessary.

Other than the above, our room was next to the toilets and showers, and the walls were pretty thin. We heard EVERYTHING. And every single time someone flushed, we woke up. The tap in our room was leaking, so there was a dripping sound that became very obvious during the nights. And if we wanted to use the tap, no water came at first with you tried to turn it on. After a few turns the whole ocean came instead, and it became very hard to get it to stop. You had to use Hulk strength to turn it off again (I still have a bruise on my hand from all the times we had to turn off the water).

One of the beds or covers (not sure which), had some sort of insect. We think it was lice, as we both got bitten a lot during the night. My wife got a few very large red marks on her back (She sleeps with pajamas so it's unlikely to be mosquitoes). The radiator in our room didn't work, so the nights and mornings became pretty cold. And last but not least, there was wifi included, but it never worked. You could connect to the wifi but got no Internet.
