Hotel Zilt in Vlissingen

In 2018 I wrote “Nice and cozy, good breakfast”.

My impression in 2026 are different. I’ve been to Zilt 20+ times in the last 10 years, and can have an educated opinion I think. It was showing its age more and more, but I was ready to forgive the non-renovated rooms, no sound insulation between them, etc, because I had rather good memories of staying in Vlissingen which extrapolated and were connected to it.
What “broke the camels back” is that they lost the service - there are rooms looking on the road, that are very noisy and hotel even provides you with earplugs, which gives you an idea of severity of that road noise. On this visit I discovered that such room is my luck this time, and politely asked if room change can be arranged. The reply was polite but in the line “next time select a better room”. It was not a solution I was looking for, they did have other rooms, and I was ready to pay for the upgrade. Maybe even was expecting them to understand that with such attitude “next time” I will not be staying in their hotel :)

Acquiring a client is the hardest thing. When he is “yours“ you are making money on him through the years, which allows you to get other new clients but requires providing at least basic level of service. Loyalty is very hard to achieve and very easy to lose. Thank you Zilt for these years, we’ll never meet again.

The hotel was a disappointment. Very small and extremly steep stairs, very narrow corridors. The room was moist (it was raining) and the towels did not dry at all. Not very good ventilated. The staff was friendly but you didn't see them very often. A lot of noice from the streets (kindly enough the hotel offers earplugs to the guests). Breakfast was semi ok.
