I would rate this place 4 out of 10 due to the overall quality of the room. The property feels quite old, with very dated cupboards. The cutlery stored in the cupboards did not appear clean, which made me hesitant to use it. The room layout was unusual, as the bedroom was accessed via a hallway through the bathroom.

While the beds were neatly made, the carpet did not look clean. The dining chair covers were dusty, and overall the room did not feel well maintained. Unfortunately, it was not a great stay for us.

Location is handy
Service acceptable
Rooms quality is way lower than standard specially given that price is market rate. Agree with all other negative reviews. Went into one of the rooms. Immediately started feeling throat irritation. Feels disgust with the filth and rundown condition .
Lesson for me: Always check reviews first before booking.

Truth or Dare? Dare accepted—barely survived.

I dare you to stay at the Gateway Motel in Rotorua. From the outside, it looks like a set from a drug squad raid or a Quentin Tarantino film gone wrong. Unkept gardens, overgrown grass, chipped walls, and a dusty car park set the tone.

Inside? Even worse. Rotten old furniture, filthy carpet, and an instant feeling of “why is my skin itchy?”—which all five of us felt while unpacking. The kitchen was a joke: ancient cutlery, questionable amenities, a sponge that looked ten years old, and cabinets with visibly rotting wood.

The bathroom… oh boy. Thongs are mandatory. Honestly, I’d rather go without showering for days than step into that grotesque bathtub.

We lasted exactly 10 minutes before changing hotels.

Awful from a cleanliness perspective. Really need an update, fresh paint, new kitchen and bathroom. Ok if it just the lads and you want to spend the night. I was appauled by the cleanliness as there was quite a bit of debree / dirt that could be easily removed. Beds were clean, comfortable and big free (!!!). But I would not bring my partner here ... She would kill me!

Absolutely disgusting from the outside inn. Arrived opened the door to a horrible smell dusty furniture bath/shower didn't even look clean pulled the bed covers back as I didn't want to sit on the dirty top blanket and the mattress and sheet were wet spoke to the cleaner and they gave an extra towel. Would definitely not recommend.

Turned up on time to get key phone there number on office door that not work ..ph the number on internet that went to answer survives...40minit waiting out side there office...then thy say thy at prayer ..how was any one no what thy up to ..the room was very run down alot different than there photos ...not recommended to any one to stay there

Great price for a family of 7. Close to supermarket and famous fish n chip shop. Bit run down but had all basic facilities. Tidy, clean. Had a goodnights rest.

Very run down state. Curtains not hung properly. Either blood or poo stains in bathroom. Mouldy.

Wasn’t impressed with the stay. The room wasn’t very clean. The curtains are broken and the hot tub hot water ran out with the hot tubes than half full.
