Geilo Hotel in Geilo

Don't stay here with family during Easter - it is an apres ski hotel and full of drunk teenagers.

We booked here for three nights over the Easter weekend expecting as their website says, "a relaxing stay" with our young family but it was the opposite. The hotel is located near to the ski slopes with big Easter parties on and the majority of the guests were attending the party which meant very noisy evenings until 2am, drunken people smoking in the corridors and even people urinating in the gardens in front of my children.

When I complained after the second night of being kept awake until 2am the male receptionist showed very little concern for our situation, repeatedly saying that he couldn't control the guests and he was not obliged to offer any form of compensation to us.

He only reluctantly offered us a different room for the last night after another guest came to my aid and spoke to him in Norwegian. I didn't take that room because he made no effort to find out who the guests were that would be near us, he could not reassure me that it would be any quieter.

He was cold, uncaring and I felt like he would not go beyond his job description - for example when I came out of my room for breakfast and found the corridor covered in crisps, presumably spilt by the party goers, I informed him and expected him to clean it up. Instead he waited until a couple of hours later when house keeping started to clean the rooms and got them to do it. In the meantime we had to walk down a corridor full of crisps two or three times - he could have cleared it up when a dustpan and brush in a couple of minutes.

As it happens there was no party on the third night and most of the party goers left, so it was much quieter. Why did he not know that the party had finished and most guests would be leaving? Could he not see the bookings? Did he not know what was going on in the town? Or could he just not be bothered? A most bizarre encounter, which spoilt our stay in what is an ok hotel.

The food is not tasty at all. It is extremely salty — as if seawater was used for cooking. Even after adding hot water, it is still very salty.
