Sanatrium Uzdrowiskowe Chemik in Duszniki Zdroj

My Polish partner and I stayed in this hellhole for 3 nights in August. Originally booked for 8 nights we were so horrified by the state of the place we left early. We would have left even earlier except that the Annual Chopin Festival was taking place in Duszniki and accommodation was difficult to find. We had booked an apartment and were horrified - ancient decrepit furniture, dirty walls, coils of wire left on the floor, 1 bedside lamp, ancient radio - utterly appalling. The only communal area to sit in was on the landing by the lift, 6 feet away from 2 enormous dustbins! Outside, the seating area was almost nonexistent, just 3 or 4 benches, which given that the place probably had at least 60 people staying, many of whom had difficulty walking very far is totally inadequate. Parking is very difficult as one has to negotiate a very steep ramp to access the premises and then drive along an extremely narrow road in order to park. We were on half board and the food was the cheapest the place could get away with and indescribably disgusting. Stale bread, minute portions, rotten bananas. Surly kitchen staff, very unfriendly and obviously completely unmotivated. The day after arriving we complained to the deeply unpleasant female manager explaining that we wished to leave because the standard was so dreadful. We had paid 1/3 of the bill in advance (1430 zlotys) and wanted a refund. She refused point blank. I have never given a hotel review before but I am still extremely incensed by this experience.
