Hotel Matriz in Ponta Delgada

A small hotel in the heart of Ponta Delgada. Its location makes for a short, pleasant walk to anywhere in the downtown area and to many attractions for sightseers. It is also close to everything you might need during your stay.

Getting to the hotel can be a bit tricky because of the one-way streets, but it’s manageable with the help of Google Maps. However, I suggest that as soon as you turn onto the street where the hotel is located, if you don’t see any street parking on the right, you pull into the entrance of the underground parking. Find a spot that doesn’t block the entrance so you can check in. Otherwise, if you aren’t familiar with Ponta Delgada, you may end up driving a long distance to circle back to the hotel.

During my stay, the staff were very friendly and helpful. They even stopped traffic for me after I found a parking spot on the right side of the street so I could back up to the underground entrance without needing to make a second round trip after checking in.

My room was clean, well-kept, and maintained. Fortunately, it was located on the third floor, where rooms have balconies. The view wasn’t anything special, but the fresh air on a summer evening was pleasant, even though the room had air conditioning. The bathroom was a good size and had a spacious shower with sliding glass doors. The hotel provided the usual hygiene products such as soap and shampoo. There was also a closet with an extra pillow, a blanket, and hangers. At the foot of the bed, against the wall, was a large desk with drawers, a chair, and a 32-inch flat-screen TV. The queen-size bed, with its crisp white linens that smelled freshly cleaned, provided a very comfortable and restful sleep.

The included breakfast was continental style with a variety of above-average quality products. Among the choices were various breads, croissants, sliced meats, cheeses, butter, cereals, hard-boiled eggs, milk, teas, and an automatic coffee machine. The dining room had plenty of tables and seating. Adjacent to the dining room, there is also a patio with two tables for those who prefer to have breakfast outdoors.

Other amenities include a lounge area and a separate bar for guests who might be in the mood for a glass of wine or a cocktail.

The hotel is equipped with two elevators: one for access to the parkade and another inside the hotel itself.

The pricing was reasonable, and I would not hesitate to book a stay there again.

Absolutely loved my stay at this hotel! From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. Everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional—they truly made the experience feel personal and warm.

Parking was a bit of a challenge due to the tight underground setup, but the staff stepped in right away to assist, making the whole process much smoother than expected. Their kindness and attentiveness really stood out.

The location is excellent—close to everything you could possibly need, with great restaurants, shops, and sights just a short walk away. I would definitely return and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable stay with top-notch service in a prime location!

This small hotel (30 rooms) in the centre of Ponta Delgada (Azores) has his own garage for free and free WiFi. Everything is nearby this hotel, (also the harbour and restaurants). The rooms are very quiet, and the bathroom is clean. Really friendly people are helping you at the reception and the continental breakfast was good - besides that there is a good supermarket in the same street.

Nice rooms, simple but good breakfast. Very nice and helpful staff, they even got us a breakfast to go bag at 4:45 in the morning!

The hotel is right in the centre and lots of shops and restaurants. The hotel was spotless and very clean and the staff are so helpful. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Wanted: a conveniently-located comfortable hotel. Found: the Hotel Matriz. Flight delays from Lisbon meant I arrived after midnight but the night manager took care of all my needs. A comfortable room but looking out on a major building project - the only thing to see from my window. I didn't come here for the view, so no problem (although the noise at my siesta time was a bit invasive). In the room, everything I would expect of this category hotel. Breakfast was adequate but, after a week, it gets a bit repetitive. Car parking (free) is three floors below the hotel and best if the rental car is SMALL! Would I stay there again? ABSOLUTELY!

We had a very nice stay. The property was fine although nothing special except the great location. There didn't seem to be a lot of other hotels near the city center and this one's location certainly made for an enjoyable visit to Puerto Delgado.

Very nice hotel! The receptionists are really kind and will help you with anything. The facilities are quite new and really clean. And it's located in the center. I really recommend it :)

- The breakfast is not very nice. Horrible coffee. The bread and coffee are better at the supermarket across the road. Unfortunately double is 2 twin beds together.
