Reviews
The only downside was the cleanliness. The used, stained cotton swab in the second picture fell out from the folded towels, which was quite disgusting. This made me hang the 'Do Not Disturb' sign the next day to prevent housekeeping from potentially revealing any other unpleasant surprises. This was the only flaw!
The location is truly impeccable! The hotel is directly connected to 'Times Square,' Korea's largest multi-purpose shopping complex. From the 5th-floor lobby, you can walk straight into the mall, which houses Shinsegae Department Store, E-Mart, Kyobo Book Centre, CGV Cinema, as well as various international brand boutiques and Korean cosmetic stores. Shopping, movie-watching, and souvenir hunting are all taken care of in one stop – no worries about what to do on a rainy day. Even better, the hotel also has an underground passage connecting it to Yeongdeungpo Subway Station. A 5-minute walk takes you to the subway, providing direct access to popular areas like Yongsan Electronics Market, Seoul Station, and City Hall, reaching major downtown attractions within 30 minutes. Getting to the airport is also very convenient; an airport bus stop is just a 3-minute walk away, where you can take bus 6007 directly to Incheon Airport. A taxi to Gimpo Airport costs only about 100 RMB (approximately 15 USD), which is a huge relief for travelers with layovers or catching flights. Within 150 meters, there are multiple convenience stores like CU, GS25, and 7-Eleven, as well as fast-food restaurants like KFC and McDonald's, making daily provisions super convenient.
My stay in the Deluxe King Room was full of pleasant surprises! Although the hotel opened in 2009, the room is very well-maintained with no signs of age. The layout is practical, featuring an ample work area that is incredibly useful for business travelers. The desk is spacious, and there are plenty of power outlets, making it highly efficient for getting work done. The bedding is soft and comfortable, and the soundproofing is good, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep. The bathroom, designed with glass walls and marble, is stylish and equipped with both a shower and a bathtub. The toiletries are standard Courtyard fare, reliably good quality. Thoughtful touches include slippers, complimentary bottled water, and tea/coffee making facilities. As a Marriott member, I also had access to 'The Lounge 15' Executive Lounge on the 15th floor, open daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. It offers complimentary coffee, tea, juice, cookies, and a wide selection of drinks and alcohol in the fridge. The atmosphere is business-friendly, with many guests working or relaxing there. Outside the lounge, there's even a sky garden, which is particularly pleasant for having a drink outdoors in the summer. Upon check-in, the front desk proactively offered discount coupons for Shinsegae Department Store and Times Square stores, which saved a good amount on shopping – a really thoughtful detail that earned extra points!
The dining options are decent and perfectly adequate. Momo Cafe, the all-day dining restaurant on the 5th floor, serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast variety is quite good, with some dishes changing daily. The most distinctive items are the various Korean kimchi, even including crab and squid flavors – truly, 'everything can be kimchi.' I particularly recommend the rice drink in the restaurant; it tastes like sweet sugarcane juice, refreshing and thirst-quenching. I drank several cans every day. The restaurant service also deserves praise. Once, I accidentally broke some tableware, and the staff immediately came to help, proactively bringing me new food without mentioning any compensation. Their attitude was incredibly kind and attentive. While breakfast quality isn't top-tier, it's perfectly fine for a filling meal, and it's efficient and convenient for travelers on a tight schedule.
The hotel facilities are comprehensive and cater to various needs. The 24-hour fitness center is quite spacious with a good range of equipment. Although some machines are a bit old and make slight noises when in use, they are perfectly sufficient for basic workouts. Note that there are no changing rooms, so you need to change in your room beforehand. The business center offers printing, faxing, and other services, which are very useful for business travelers. Both the lobby and coffee shop have free and stable Wi-Fi, allowing smooth video streaming and work without lag. The hotel also provides free public parking, currency exchange, luggage storage, and other services. The 24-hour front desk is always responsive to requests, and most staff speak good English. Even if an individual staff member isn't fluent, they immediately find a colleague to help, ensuring seamless communication.
Of course, there are a few minor drawbacks: The standard rooms are indeed quite small, which can feel a bit cramped for two people. If you have a lot of luggage, your moving space might be restricted. I'd suggest upgrading to a suite if your budget allows, as they are much larger and offer more benefits. Some rooms don't have bidet toilets, which might require adjustment for guests accustomed to them. The concierge service was not very proactive; they didn't offer to help with luggage or provide a warm welcome, appearing a bit distant.
Overall, Courtyard by Marriott Seoul Times Square stands out as a top choice for accommodation in Seoul, thanks to its excellent location, thoughtful member benefits, comprehensive facilities, and great value for money. Whether for business or leisure shopping, you'll have a comfortable and convenient experience here. It's especially recommended for Marriott members using points for stays, with the 'stay 4, get 1 free' promotion offering exceptional value. If the hotel could optimize its room size configurations and concierge service, the experience would be even more perfect! I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Seoul.
