Hotel Delicias in Zaragoza

It does not have a lock inside to be able to close the room door with a key, which causes a certain insecurity that is not very pleasant for my taste. The woman told us that if we left the key at reception when we left they could do the cleaning for us, no. We left it because seeing that it didn't have a lock made us more insecure and to our surprise when we arrived they had entered the room to clean, the only nice thing is that the bed is great and the heating is turned on high. There is only one table and desk full of tobacco holes, not to mention the bad location where it seemed that the only Spaniards were my partner and I, very very street people in that neighborhood (I'll leave it to each one's imagination). The woman at the reception was very nice, yes.

The hotel is located in between the train station (15 minute walk) and the old town (25 minute walk) and quite close to the absolutely wonderful Palacio Aljaferia (7-8 minute walk). The area, Delicias, is a very cosmopolitan area and quite busy. There are dozens of cafes and bars within an easy walk. But they are all almost exclusively run by Chinese. Therefore the authenticity of Spanish fare isn't apparent. I'd go as far as to say the food is terrible almost everywhere nearby. I ended up eating at KFC a couple of times because I was so fed up with the terrible food nearby. The hotel staff are really very friendly and helpful. A couple of them speak virtually no English so I found myself managing to get by with my ok "Spanglish" and received a warm smile for my efforts. Zaragoza on the whole has a very low English speaking population so get brushing up on your Español. The room at a first glance looked adequate, although spartan/austere. No ornaments or pictures. The TV, air conditioning and electric blinds all work well. The small lift is old fashioned and a bit rustic in its operation. The downsides to my visit was the cleanliness of the room. Some people won't bother, I'm not normally, myself, one to be picking on the odd thing, but this place was filthy! I've added pictures of just a few things. Long dark hairs everywhere, grime on all the skirtings, interiors of cupboards and shower screens. The bacteria in the sink overflow, air conditioner and shower areas was for me vomit inducing. There is no excuse when a bit of bleach and a brush would eradicate this so easy. My advice would be to stay closer to the old town. I wish I'd forked out the extra money which isn't that much and saves on using the complicated bus network and having to keep making your way to the very same area for better food and nicer surroundings. Delicias is a bit of a dump as is large parts of Zaragoza.
