Barranco del Infierno

Description

The Barranco del Infierno is a ravine located in the town of Adeje in the south of the island of Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.

A popular hiking trail leads through the ravine to the highest waterfall on Tenerife. Access to the gorge is controlled by a limitation on the number of daily visitors. Reservations can be done online.

The area is very important archaeologically, since there are hundreds of caves that were home to many aboriginal Guanches, as well as caves with engravings. The largest collection of Guanche mummies and utensils were found here and placed in the Museum of Nature and Man of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The trail was closed for security reasons after a deadly accident in 2009, until 2015. Currently it is open all the way to the end, additional safety measures have been implemented.

A spectacular 3 hour walk. The helmets they make you ware would not stop anything larger than a pebble from those heights. The falls themselves depend on recent rain.

The hike is fun though somewhat on the easy side, because the trail is often paved with a mix of rocks and concrete.

The sights are nice, but not as impressive as other alternatives on the island (e.g. Masca gorge).

Nevertheless a nice hike!

Nice place to trekk, medium difficulty. A lot to see in the spring and winter, not so much in summer. We did it because we had 9 days on Teneriff Otherwise we would have skip it.

Path simple and peaceful, inside a gorge. Very nice. Recommend starting early in the morning to avoid the initial stretch under the sun more warm.

It runs a good hour each way through the blazing sun, we nature on the last piece of wonderful green and the waterfall is the absolute Highlight. It's just a pity that you are not allowed to into the water.

We enjoyed all other our hiking trips...This one not so much. Were told to leave in 10 minutes after we arrived to the water fall. There are so many great tracks in Tenerife so no point really for this over regulated one

A beautiful walking experience if you are not afraid of heights. It take's an average of 3 hour's to complete with many ups and down's. Not recommended if you are prone to leg hip or back pain.

Not worth it. Did it in 90 min instead of 180 min. Easy trail, especially after I hiked on Teide. Difficult to make good pictures (especially in the morning) because you are surrounded by walls.
