Could not recommend this hotel more! Wonderful family, peaceful garden, so many great conversations and a really peaceful neighborhood. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience Colombo at its best. Breakfast was fantastic and I learned about so many new spices and foods from Sri Lanka, especially because they have some spice and coconut plantations and are very knowledgable about plants! Highly highly recommend. Not to mention the fantastic architecture and garden you will stay in. Lush!

The room was infested with ants, what I thought were bed bugs but found out were wood beetles (with carry mites) and cockroaches. Had to spray my sheets every night for the ants and use roach spray around the bed. Woke up with bug bites evey morning. One morning I had over 100 bites and had to go to the clinic to get medication for the swelling and itch. Asked for some type of refund but they said they couldn't because it would cut into their profit margin. Only picked this B&B because it was 1 street over from where I used to live in Colombo.

We found out about this wonderfull place from reading NY Times article in late fall. We quickly changed our existing booking! We loved staying, breathing, entering the garden, the house, sittning on the balcony, eating breakfast in the garden oasis - yes everything! New friends we met over christmas in Kalpitiya were inspired of our ravings (and this was before we even stayed there) and are going to Highbury next week! Tips, talks and help with transport was much appreciated! We are coming back to Colombo, cause the stay at H contributed highly to the overall impression of the great city.

As soon as I found this place, I knew it’s where I wanted to stay in Colombo, and it far exceeded my expectations. The entire property is beautifully designed and decorated. It’s quiet, well-situated in the city, and feels like an oasis in Colombo. My late arrival was accommodated, and I left my suitcase for a small fee while traveling around the country. I’m looking forward to returning in just two short days. Thank you for everything! Such a nice welcome to Sri Lanka.

on the plus side: nice location, very quiet. Some restaurants in walking distance. Bird song in the morning. on the minus side: place a little worn and note quite as lovely as on the photos. Facilities could do with a renovation. All in all not the best value for money, we felt.

If you're looking for an oasis inside the city, the Highbury is the place. I stayed on a long term business trip, and it was exactly what I was looking for after long work days. The accomodations are clean, WiFi strong, and the owners are kind and welcoming. The stay is a short Tuktuk ride away from major attractions and has some great restaurants nearby.

The hospitality of the owners is impressive. Located in a quiet and peaceful area, this hotel awakens our artistic sensibilities with its well-maintained garden and the fusion of indoor and courtyard spaces. Listening to the sounds of wild birds as the morning sun pours in is soothing. I highly recommend staying for an extended period of time.

The location, the place, the hosts, everything was just perfect!. In a quiet(er) neighbourhood of Colombo, Highbury Colombo is a lovely open aired house with several living areas. Our host greeted us, a family of 5,(3 children aged 9, 8 and 5), and led us to our generous quarters where we could all fit alongside a kitchenette and a shower bathroom. Ample information was dispensed about the area, notably the beach, a short stroll away. We stayed only one night but we would love to come back for more!
