We had a very pleasant stay at Golden City Star Hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean, and the washrooms well-maintained.
Pros:
Spacious and clean rooms with comfortable washrooms.
Rooftop provides a great view of the entire city.
Centrally located and reasonably priced for the budget.
Cons / Tips:
Ground floor has a wine shop and restaurant; some smell comes from that area.
Other than that, hotel premises are quiet and well-kept.
Tip: Choose upper floors for a peaceful stay and enjoy the city view from the rooftop."

It was a lovely accommodation for 3 of us...with amazing roof top view. You could see Colombo Lotus Tower from there.

Cash went missing from my room during my stay after I gave my key to the hotel for room service. When I returned, no service had been done, the door was locked differently, and 15,000 LKR was missing.
Management initially refused to show full CCTV and only shared partial clips. The next day at checkout, I was finally shown footage that included a previously withheld clip of a man entering my room for about a minute during the time my key was with the hotel.
Despite this, I was told there was “no proof” and responsibility was shifted back to me. What concerns me most is not only the missing money, but the lack of transparency and accountability in how this was handled.
I would not stay here again and am sharing this so other travelers can make an informed decision.

This Golden Pier is located in the middle of Old Colombo, 300 meters from St. Antony's Church. The interior is a contrast to the dirty surroundings. Clean, comfortable, elevator. A large room. Comfortable beds, excellent air conditioning and fast Wi-Fi. Upon check-in, we expressed regret that there was not at least a small refrigerator. And wow! They brought it to us in 5-7 minutes! Since we checked in at almost half past nine in the evening, we were recommended to eat at the hotel bar. A great place with 2-story ceilings, excellent waiters and a good cuisine.

I dont know what others were bothered about but this place was so beautiful. The location is very colourful, it was budget friendly, the staff were super friendly and open for conversations, the food is decent, the rooms were clean and they had AC which is actually very cooling and relaxing for this weather in Colombo. Honestly this place may not be best for everyone to enjoy but if you are looking to relax and explore places, this is perfect as there is everything surrounded this hotel. Tailoring, grocery, shoe shops, clothes, meat, souvenirs, temples, churches, duty free etc.

Second stay at this hotel and it was absolutely awesome. Rooms are clean neat spacious and safe . Service wise the owner is very friendly and supportive staff was also good they didn’t help us with the luggage but we forgot few stuff at room and they called us right away and delivered it to us safely. Location is okay lil bit sketchy but can manage. Hotel is actually good id definitely come back. Thanks everyone.

The promised Wi-Fi isn't working in the rooms. Good people are working there, but very little English. They always say Yes to fixing things, and a lot of things had to be fixed, as almost nothing has been working in the room. But NOTHING gets done. You remind them and remind them, they say Yes, and still, everything stands unattended. We had to change the hotel, as the conditions in this hotel are unlivable. The area of the town is most unsafe and the hotel workers chased me to get back to the hotel in the evening. It's been made mandatory, though it's not written anywhere. On the pictures the room looks very good, 3 large windows, but the blinders didn't work, not one of them, and you get a very dark, damp and smelly room instead.

A person introduce that he is the Manager there and his service is very bad. We tried to talk him to reduce corkage fee, But he didn't give any solution. Per bottle they charged Rs.2000/- but the place is good.

Favorite Colombo hotel. Clean and comfortable well equipped rooms! Service good, but sometimes a bit slow but have to say that everyone is always nice and helpful. See you next time! Stayed many times and always got fast wifi. Thanks and see you next times.
