Secret Garden Chiang Mai in San Kamphaeng

We stayed at Secret Garden for a week. Outside the hustle and bustle of Chiang Mai, it is an oasis of calm and tranquility. Peter, Pai and Izzie are wonderful hosts, nothing is impossible to organize for you. The breakfast buffet in the morning was sumptuous and flavorsome. Dinner can be ordered before 14h00 each day. The rooms were large and well appointed. The property is large, and as you walk through the gardens you come across quirky garden art found along the way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We have just had a fantastic stay at The Secret Garden, Chiang Mai. Wonderful grounds - luxury lodges set around a lake with wildlife and jungle planting adding to a natural and beautiful setting. Isobel and her family were so friendly and welcoming - their food was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble.

We stayed at Secret Garden Chiang Mai for one week in January 2025. We enjoyed it very much. The family who has Secret Garden has given the place there own personal touch so the place has a very special charming atmosphere. The family made the most fantastic food for us both for breakfast and dinner. They helped us in every way to get the best vaccation. When we had made an arrangement with a grap for a whole day and it did not show up the mother of the family right away found another driver for us. We had good conversations with Isabell which learned us a lot about Thailand. We give the place our best recommendations. We hope to come back one day.

We were looking for somewhere close to Chaing Mai but with some quietness in the heat. The Secret Garden was a perfect match. The resort is made up of a number of bungalows, each very private , nestled between trees , flowers, ponds and a small river. There is a pool with a water fall to relax in and each bungalow has a verandah with soft seating, perfect for listening to the birds and wildlife . Isobel and her family were so welcoming and looked after our every need. There is a "bar " where various cocktails are available as well as beers and soft drinks . An evening meal is also an option which we took up 4 times as the food was so good! A Grab taxi into Chiang Mai centre was approximately B200. The location was close enough to make use of a trip to an Elephant Sanctuary and cooking course. We loved the place so much that we returned for 3 more nights on our way back to Bangkok!

We loved our stay at secret garden for six days with family of six (4 teenagers). After a busy day it is a welcoming surrounding to come back to. It’s quiet, green and a lovely atmosphere. The owners are the kindest you can imagine. They are very helpful in recommending activities, finding a taxi or helping out any way you need. They also do a superb breakfast and dinner! The pool is lovely and the houses are cosy with a good airco in the bedrooms and good beds. We borrowed the bikes a few times to go into the village for lunch and dinner. It is a bit out of Chiang Mai (30 min taxi) which means slightly longer travelling. But one day in busy Chiang Mai was more than enough for us. We preferred activities in the region. We highly recommend this resort. You step into the real Thai community in an Oasis of lush surroundings.

The Secret Garden holds a very special place in our hearts. Our first visit was in January 2014. During this time we made lifelong friends with another couple. Our goal was to someday return to the Secret Garden to relive the magic of this enchanted place. Not only are the gardens beautiful and serene, the owners and their staff make your stay a very special experience. While not fancy, the cottages are spotlessly clean, beds are comfy and a service kitchen allows you to keep some drinks and food on hand. But do not eat in your room, because for 195 THB ( about $6) Chef Pai and her sous chefs will make you the most amazing dinner and the full breakfasts are included. Isabel, who we first met when she was 18, is the daughter of Chef Pai and Peter, the inspiration for the Secret Garden. Isabel runs the daily operations with such attentiveness and warmth. We feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to return in December 2024.

We love the secret garden! Isabel was super helpful from beginning to end Peter and May were wonderful hosts this spread out compound east of Chiang Mai. This is a budget friendly Hideaway about 30 minutes from town, so be prepared for that, but they have bikes and scooters you can use and a wonderful Countryside to explore! If you're looking for a five-star hotel experience this is not going to be your place, but if you are looking for a private bungalow with a friendly relaxing atmosphere this is it! Tim and Maria

I titled my review essentially the same as i did in April, 2023!! Yes, I went back to the same and even greater experience than in April of 2023! Smooth pick up at the airport and greeted by Pai the wife of the owner. I was escorted directly to my room with no one concerned about Payment as that is far down the line in there eyes! YOU matter first and your comfort and needs! It has not changed! Peter, the owner is his usual pleasant self and a great conversationalist! The first Bungalow i had was the same one i had back in April 2023. Such a well organized bungalow just right for me. But i wanted to try a different one so i was moved to one closer to the dining area like one minute away, haha! It was even better than the one i was staying in. Aircon, microwave, fan, TV with MANY international stations, bed was comfortable and well suited for my needs! I am on a particularly odd diet due to health reasons. So Khun Pai and Isabel (daughter of Peter and Pai who is ABSOLUTELY A WONDERFUL LADY) They saw to it I had just the right foods for my meals. Way far and above that you would expect from ANY other resort! They did not have to care that much BUT they DID!! All the staff were very pleasant although many could not speak English. Cleaning staff were great! They saw when i was at breakfast and then go quickly to clean my bungalow! I always tipped then with Bhat and chocolates! I was there during the rainy season. Isabel brought me an evening meal when it was raining. I had no problems with the 2 bungalows i stayed. Someone was always there to assist or answer any questions. WELL YES! It is in a peaceful setting. Lovely scrubs, plants, flowers with you waking up to the birds singing. Its a Marvelous resort for families, with a pool tool OLD or YOUNG it is a GREAT, GO TO RESORT! I will be back, see i have to go back. Time is limited. Make it a mission to experience SECRET GARDEN You, as i said before, will not regret your stay! Thanks Peter, Pai AND OF COURSE "ISABEL'!

The perfect place to enjoy Thai culture, relax, shop if you want, visit markets, or just sit by the pool & read. Nothing is too much trouble for our lovely hosts Peter, Pai & Isabel.. and all the staff/family. Great location, close to downtown Bo Sang, and near rural community. Our 1st visit was 12 years ago.. and will definitely return.

Second time here and we had an amazing stay with our family (8 year old and 11 year old children). The hotel is just outside of Chiang Mai, and we loved seeing the local area including using the free bikes to ride through the Paddy Fields and to the local Umbrella making factory. It was also cooler outside the city centre. Taxis (Grab) were cheap into Chiang Mai (around THB 150). The hotel is in beautiful grounds and the , pool was perfect to relax by. Izzy and Pai were brilliant hosts and gave us suggestions of things to do. Also the home cooked meals were delicious and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend, especially if you are looking for something a bit different outside the busy city centre.
