Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)
Our stay at Wasana Resort on Bang Ben Beach was nothing short of magical. While the pictures show a beautiful, secluded beach and charming bungalows, they can't capture the true heart of this place. That heart is the owner, a man who doesn't just run a hotel but cultivates an experience.
The Setting: Perfect for those seeking peace and a deep connection with nature. Bang Ben Beach is a long, serene stretch of sand, often almost private. The resort is nestled in a lush, tropical garden, which feels like a private nature reserve. We were blessed with breathtaking wildlife sightings right from our porch – in the evenings, magnificent toucans would fly to the trees near the bungalows, allowing us to observe these exotic birds in awe. Our bungalow was simple, clean, and full of character.
The Soul of the Place – The Host: Now, this is what makes Wasana truly exceptional. The owner is the warmest, kindest, and most creative soul you could hope to meet. His positive energy and calming aura are palpable from the moment you arrive. He has a way of making every guest feel like a welcomed friend, sharing stories, ensuring your comfort, and radiating a genuine peace that is utterly contagious. He is the core around which this beautiful resort revolves.
And oh, the food! This deserves its own paragraph. The host is also a culinary artist. I would dare to say his cooking could give Gordon Ramsay a run for his money in terms of flavor and soul! He uses fresh, local ingredients to create exquisite Thai dishes that are bursting with authenticity. Each meal was a masterpiece, prepared with the same care and passion he puts into everything. Dining here, with your feet in the sand, eating food made with such love, is an experience you will never forget.
The Natural Soundtrack: The immersion into the wild is constant. The daytime is graced by the sight of toucans, while the night belongs to the sounds of the jungle. Falling asleep and waking up to the distinctive, powerful call of the Tokay gecko provided a truly authentic and unforgettable soundtrack to our stay. It’s the real, unfiltered sound of the Thai tropics!
In summary, Wasana Resort is a rare find. It's for travelers who value connection, tranquility, and authenticity over impersonal luxury. It offers the perfect blend of a stunning location, simple comfort, incredible wildlife encounters, and, above all, incredible human warmth. We didn't just leave with a tan; we left with our spirits refreshed and feeling like we had discovered a second home. We will be back, without a doubt.
Thank you for creating such a special paradise!
The owner is the customer-focused and incredibly kind old Dutch "rocker" B(oudewijn) and his Thai wife.
He also prepares delicious meals.
You can borrow bikes for free.
Restaurants and shops are nearby.
Hornbills in the garden.
Within walking distance of the campsite entrance to Laem National Park. Bo can also arrange a boat day trip for B3000/boat or B750/person for 4 people, including lunch, to three of the heavenly Bounty Islands of Laem NP. The advantage of being so close is that you're the first on the islands in the morning.
Wasana Resort is highly recommended!
Unfortunately, we were woken up several times by noisy neighbors, a group of young Thais. Since the owner wasn't there at night, we couldn't reach anyone who could calm the neighbors down. I spoke to them myself, but the peace only lasted about half an hour. Therefore, the night was unfortunately not restful :-(
The internet wasn't particularly good either, and the connection dropped out frequently.
The accommodation is dated and in need of renovation. For example, the shower heater didn't work, even though the light was on.
He gave us extremely valuable information, as he is well connected with the local community and is able to provide everything one can imagine: tips for great, secluded local beaches, contacts for long-tail boats that can take people on snorkeling tours around the neighboring islands, bycicles and many more.
The Wasana Bungalows are big and kind of simply built, but they got everything you need: AC, very confortable beds, personal bathroom, fridge, parking in front of your porch and even big cable TV.
The value/money ratio is great!
There's a family owned restaurant across the street that make delicious seafood dishes, for really fair prices, whereas you can have breakfast at Wasana resort itself.
If we would not have been forced to move forward, we would have stayed in this place for several days, the atmosphere is warm and peaceful, and again, our host is a fantastic guy, we were sad not to sit with him and have a longer chat.
Sweet very cosy and spacious bungalows with wi fi, kettle, tea and coffe and smart tv!? It felt a 5star hotel after all the bamboo shaks we stayed in :P I definitely recommend!!
The bungalow was great and the family has a restaurant next door which was perfect as it was pretty late.
Clean, good wifi, and pet friendly with no additional charge unlike most other places in Thailand.
The owner recommended we go check out the beach nearby which we did in the AM and it was nice.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone going through this area.
