Hotel Gumbet in Guembet

❗️Very Disappointing Stay – Unprofessional Conduct and Poor Hygiene Standards
Hotel: Gumbet Hotel – Bodrum, Turkey
Stay Dates: July 24 – July 28, 2025
Booking Amount: ~650 EUR (5 nights)
Additional Service: VIP Taxi Transfer from airport – 50 EUR
🛑 The experience was unfortunately negative from the beginning:
• I had arranged a VIP taxi transfer through the hotel for €50. The vehicle was in very poor condition:
• The air conditioning didn’t work,
• The TV screen kept falling,
• The driver's window separating us was open, and
• There was a strong smell of gasoline throughout the ride.
🏨 Hotel Arrival:
• At first, the reception staff were polite and acknowledged the transportation issue, saying they would report it and that we were the first to complain.
• As compensation, they offered a “better” room – which turned out to be the same category (sea view) I had already booked.
🚿 Room Conditions:
• Upon entering, we noticed:
• No bathroom amenities (no soap, no shampoo). When I asked, I was told the hotel does not provide them and was advised to buy them myself.
• The room was not clean:
• My fiancée walked barefoot and her feet became dirty,
• We found strands of hair in the bathroom,
• The general hygiene was poor (photos attached).
💳 Payment Issues & Staff Behavior:
• Although I paid in cash (700 EUR) and was told they would return the change later, I later received an email from Booking.com stating the payment failed.
• My fiancée visited reception to:
• Clarify the payment issue,
• Request the room be cleaned more thoroughly.
The hotel owner's reaction was shocking:
• He accused us of calling him a thief,
• Claimed that Booking made a mistake and we should “just ignore the email”,
• Repeatedly said he gave us a “better room”, that it was “worth double”, and that we didn’t know what we were talking about.
• When my fiancée asked: “Don’t I have the right to request cleaning or clarification?”, both the hotel owner and his wife began shouting, threatening to kick us out of the hotel.
At this point, we no longer felt safe or welcome and decided to leave the hotel early.
⚖️ Summary:
This hotel does not meet basic hospitality standards, and the way we were treated was unprofessional and unacceptable. The experience caused us stress and ruined what was meant to be a relaxing holiday.
📢 I do not recommend Gumbet Hotel to other travelers.
If you value cleanliness, transparency, and respectful customer service, please consider alternative accommodations in Bodrum.

Positives:
- The staff was friendly.
- The swimming pool was beautiful and clean.

Negatives :
- The hotel room had a strong sewage smell, like rotten broccoli. Despite the staff's efforts to mask the odor, it kept coming back.
- The hotel is located in the Gumbert area, which feels like an open-air nightclub. The music doesn't stop until around 4 AM, and it is veeery loud. This can be problematic, especially on nights before an early flight (this isn't directly the hotel's fault, but it's something to be aware of before booking in this area).
- The bed was uneven.
-The overall condition of the room was subpar, with weak shower pressure, a faulty shower, and towels that weren’t replaced.
Conclusion:
Room 202 needs to be refurbished.

We recently stayed at Gumbet Hotel and were incredibly disappointed. We had booked three rooms with king-size beds, but upon arrival, we were shocked to find that all three rooms had single beds. The hotel staff promised to switch our rooms, but day after day, they claimed that the hotel was fully booked. However, we could clearly see numerous empty rooms, making their excuse completely unbelievable.
The hotel lacked a basic lobby where guests could relax and enjoy a drink. Additionally, we were not allowed to bring drinks to the pool area, which was a major inconvenience on a hot day.
Overall, our experience at Gumbet Hotel was terrible. We would not recommend this hotel to anyone and advise potential guests to look elsewhere for a more satisfying stay.
