Bit noisy with plumbing system
Hard bed. Extortionate parking (20 a day). **** and alcohol fuelled neighbours wandering the streets, screaming and yelling, making sure you never enjoy more than an hours sleep and a bathroom that is so badly designed, you can’t have a bath or a shower! The scrambled eggs at breakfast are a solid, tasteless lump of yellowish matter. A true delight!
To get into the car park we had to get the rough sleepers to move so we could drive down the access tunnel, which they were sleeping in. Nice guys and I was very uncomfortable having them pick up their belongings to allow me access. It felt very wrong.
When we checked in we were told the car park is privately owned and despite the hotel advertising it at £10 per day, the charge is in fact, £20. Payable immediately. I’d rather that extra went to the guys in the tunnel. It was clear the front desk knew of the issues with false pricing online but don’t care.
We went upstairs and found our deluxe room was anything but. The bath was so small, that as a 5 foot tall women, it was still too small for me! This did not prove to be an issue as the plug didn’t work and water just drained straight out. The shower is a fixed head, and was two foot above me. Designed for a man and of little practical use to me.
I did ask for the plug to be fixed. It wasn’t!
Could not wait to leave! Horrible experience around.
The room itself matched the merchant's photos. The bathroom was generally spacious, but there was a significant waste of space. It shouldn't have been designed like this after a renovation. I've never seen such a ridiculously designed sink; the faucet is too close to the basin, so simply washing your hands causes water to spill all over the floor. There's also no floor drain in the bathroom, so we had to cover the entire floor with towels.
Also, a £50 deposit is required upon check-in, authorized via credit card. Other hotels usually release it immediately upon checkout. I specifically asked when checking out, and they said it would take 'a few days.' I don't understand why. I waited a week and it still wasn't refunded. After Ctrip customer service intervened, it was immediately refunded. Truly outrageous.
Personally, I think as long as the Hampton by Hilton next door isn't more than 50% more expensive, I'd still recommend staying at the Hampton. It has better facilities, includes breakfast, and the service is better. Don't come here to be annoyed.
Hotels is old so very creaky and I was woken with lots of gurgling in my bathroom from what I can only presume was someone else using their bathroom at 3am . Overall Good

During the day it can be a little busy, but generally I've always gotten a seat no problem. Self service machines are available, as well as mobile orders if you have their app.
Big warning: don't go there between 1 and 4 am on the weekend. They close off the seating areas and it becomes a mosh pit of drunk people, where you'll be waiting 40 minutes for a simple order, and getting crushed as you try to collect it.
When mine arrived, the chips were all but cold. I returned to the counter and explained the problem. The young girl did not say a word, picked up the chips, filled a new bag put them back on my tray again without saying a word.
I went upstairs to eat (not very tidy). When I opened the box of nuggets, they were not cold, but they were certainly not hot but they were edible, and in fact quite tasty even though not hot.
Eventually I turned to my Fanta, took one sip and it was flat.
I went downstairs and asked to speak to a manager. Dan came to see me straight away. Listened to my tale, but had no words of apology. He simply offered me a voucher. As I live in Edinburgh, a voucher for the sore in Newcastle was not much use. He did say he’d have a word with staff and kitchen, but he obviously did not know the word sorry, or apology.
I left the Fanta for him to dispose of.
Useless!
