Sovereign Hill Hotel, Ballarat1 / 27

Ballarat, 39-41 Magpie Street (45 min from centre) 🧭 Map
I was a bit disappointed there was no hot water for the showers.😔
Very good location next to Ballarat Gold Mine.
the hotel was pretty good the beds were nice I got to test them out VERY well HOWEVER the buffet was kinda below average the waiter accidentally ( I hope ) dropped a fork on my brother Sam he is still in pain. The food Wasnt very good either no hash browns or pancakes or waffles . Also no Nutella And there was also MULTIPLE hairs in our food. I do not recommend eating there. Over all the buffet experience...
The Hotel just located beside Sovereign Hill, We purchase as a package with the park so there are some extra perks when visiting the place. Look at their Sovereign Hill website for the package for the accommodation. The hotel room is cosy and comfort. Room are pretty new and I had a good stay there.
This hotel is actually connected to the gold mine. In the past, there was a back door, and you could buy tickets for the gold mine at the hotel, but now it doesn't work. But it's not far around the front. The architectural style is Victorian style, and the internal facilities are also very good, which can be used as an additional content for gold mine visits. recommend
The location of Sovereign Hill Hotel is very good, just across the road is the Golden Town. The view from the room is nice and there is a coffee maker in the room. The heater is big and warm.

Our room had no windows or balcony , it felt like a jail room . Beds were uncomfortable, pillows and mattress not good either , bed squeaky . Phone was out of order  Lift not practical  Tv was an old and small hidden in an old style cupboard. Not enough power points in the room . Location is exceptional though staff were very nice and helpful . Bathroom was very good 👍🏾
Good hotel, good location. Street parking is available and not too busy.
The hotel itself if fantastic heritage building, I liked the location and historic atmosphere. Be prepared to check-in at the bar, if there is nobody at the reception and to pay for street parking, as hotel parking may be full. The room is nice, a but outdated, but clean, and that is not that bad for heritage hotel
The hotel is located in the center of Ballarat. It was founded in 1853 and still retains the 19th century decoration style. As a historic hotel, the overall environment of the room is clean and tidy, and the facilities are well maintained. The hotel staff is very enthusiastic and will introduce the various facilities of the hotel in detail when checking in. Parking is available at the door of the hotel...
I would say I have some mixed feelings about this hotel. I like the building; it is truly a historical building. However, there is a lack of staff. I sometimes have to wait for the staff. Other than that, I loved the room. The hardware is great, but the software issue caused an overall error.
Very classic hotel, really like go into a history.

Appreciated the 24 reception services. It is helpful when we travel by public  transport as we can’t control the time.  Very happy with the location as it was very convenient. Breakfast quite healthy. Clean rooms.  Having warm globes and an exhaust fan in the bathroom would be useful .
I arrived at 2am called after hours entry instant service would highly recommend
We travelled down on the 22nd of August 2025 for 2 nights. We wanted somewhere close to town and good value. From our view you can't beat the Mid City. Yes the rooms are a little dated but they were clean, had good showers, it was quiet, breakfast was great, hosts lovely and the location was excellent.
Highly recommend this accomodation if wanting to explore Ballarat and enjoy walking distance to dinner/ shopping etc. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Buffet style breakfast with a coffee machine included in our booking and it was exceptional, highly recommend getting the breakfast. Bed and pillows were great and had a fantastic night sleep with quiet surrounds and wonderful light blocking out...
Travelled from Sydney to Melbourne and this was the best stop. Rooms little old but clean and roomy. Beautiful big towels. Great location. Breakfast delicious. Ate both nights at the hotel and meals delicious. Owners and Peta doing everything to make this a friendly and enjoyable place to stay. Keep up the good work guys👍

We stayed in 2 rooms with my family and it was exceptional. Yes its older style but very clean and tidy. Kids loved the pool also very clean. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Value for money is crazy good. We will definitely be back.
The Bell Tower lnn has been a favourite of my family going back 20 or so years as my parents always stayed there when visiting Ballarat based family . I now carry the tradition , the consideration and care of staff , the cleanliness of rooms all go to a really enjoyable stay. Thank you to the Bell Tower , specially Ray and Tina for top notch customer service . Many thanks .
The experience there was amazing. The service was great. There was a restaurant in the hotel. Everything was organised.
Nice place to stay, Forgot to let owner know, there was no hair dryer and one bedside lamp didn’t work, But didn’t affect our stay
We had a great time visiting this Hotel. The room was so clean and spacious. We were right across the pool/spa area. The pool... wow! Very clean, well-maintained, and with nearby bathrooms that were very convenient. The water was at a perfect temperature and very clean. We are looking forward to returning soon! The only thing was that the jet tub didn't work, but we enjoyed the other amenities...
For a last second booking through Bookings.com I have to say it was not bad. Good sized shower for 2. Massive room that you could swing a cat. We were very comfortable. Check in and out was easy.

Easy to book, easy to check in. Clean. Well situated. All good
This is a good value for money motel, located next to Ballarat train station, very close. The family travel booked a family suite, which is equivalent to one bedroom, one living room and one bathroom, with three beds in the living room and a double bed in the bedroom. The room is well equipped with a refrigerator, microwave and oven, etc. If you don't have too high requirements for hygiene conditions...
Property was nice. There were a few minor property condition issues but nothing to upset our stay. Room was as pictured. Room was advertised with room service available but there was not. Other than toilet paper and a tiny bar of soap there were no toiletries such as shampoo conditioner or sanitary desposal bags
Had a great one night stay at seymours luxury king villa was exactly that. Great price aswell
Older property but clean & comfortable. Undercover off street parking for each room. Walking distance to public transport, shopping, restaurants & nightlife. Overall very pleasant stay, thank you.
I have stayed at Seymours on many occasions. The on-site manager is always very welcoming, efficient and helpful. The room I stayed in on this occasion (as with past rooms on past occasions) was spacious, clean and very well resourced. I will happily stay again at Seymours in Ballarat when I am next in town. Thank you.

Lovely heritage building, and fantastic improvements have been made since my last start 15 odd years ago. Staff really friendly too. A small lake on the 55 acres. Also spa & sauna, as well as a swimming pool too. Beautiful areas around the ground to walk or cycle around. ( can be hired through the back barn area)
A lovely country experience!Staying in a heritage building with all the comforts of home was delightful. The facilities at the resort were excellent. A spa, sauna, gym, heated swimming pool, bikes, frisbee golf and much more. I especially appreciated the lake where you could relax or take part in water sports.
Georgeous accommodation, loved the heritage of the place, great facilities and heaps of activies. Clean spacious rooms and loved the floor heating in the bathrooms.
This was such an amazing property full of history! Absolutely loved staying there!
No complaints at all. Good staff, good property, good amenities.
This place is fantastic! The pool was heated, we went bike riding around the lake, canoed, paddle-boated, played tennis, and so much more. This would be a great place to stay for families and couples. The room was cosy and quaint and had everything you need for a great stay, even heated bathroom floor. We can't wait to go back!!

Stay there when I travel to Ballarat. Always clean and very friendly welcome
I liked that the family room was spacious and everything we needed was already thought of.
Enjoyed my stay at Colonial Motor Inn, villa was very clean and has 2 bathrooms and 2 tv's.The Manager gave us an upgrade on arrival, so thanks alot. The pool was clean and nicely heated, overall its a relaxing place to stay with an hasske free check in and check out. 5 stars.clean
Very cheap and accommodating at the last minute when previous accommodation cancelled our booking without warning. Rooms are quite dated - but simple and offer basic amenities.

The stay was pleasant! The Inn had everything you'd need on an average holiday which was fantastic!
The service was good but unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable. It was sinking in the middle! The pillows and mattress smelt of sweat. The hotel was fully booked, so we couldn't change rooms. Will not stay again
Worth the money. Very convenient location and clean. Stayed for two days.
The rooms are nice and clean. Foxtel is a bonus and the pool looks good.
Booked for holiday with family including seniors. All happy all good.
Clean comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful. Sebastopal club is across the road, and Coles 200 metres down the road. Sovereign Hill and Ballarat main street are a 10 minute drive away.

Basic breakfast. Comfy bed and pilliows. The hotel has lots of character.
Rural, rustic old pub, pub meals, so much charm and great to catch up with the Howlett side of the family
We had lunch here one Friday. The BLT was good, the potato wedges the best I have ever had. It is a charming and rather quaint Australian pub.
It’s an old pub with history and attitude. You don’t pay a lot to stay here. …Well worth it if you are happy to share bathroom, kitchen and toilet. Walls are paper thin to noise: not helpful as one of the compressors sits in the kitchen next to a bedroom. Bits of the building might also spontaneously fall off in your hands. Food is simple and people are bluntly friendly.
A great old style country pub, we popped in for a counter lunch on a Saturday, very friendly staff providing great service, friendly locals, and good pub food. Very enjoyable.

Stunning apartments which are large and beautifully decorated. Everything is immaculate. Bed was super comfortable. Bathroom as enormous. Didn't see another person through our whole stay! (though we were there <24h). Check in was easy with the key safe. Would 100% stay again.
Central location in Ballarat. Room is quite spacious in an old Villa from the 1900s.
We were attracted to this place by the period rooms advertised. Most are probably lovely but we got suite 11b which looks like it has been converted from a block of garages or flat roofed outbuildings. It is completely character free, is not even accessed from within the property and has a somewhat awkward layout. It is clean, recently decorated and the beds were comfy but is an awkward shape. So reality...
Very good value for money, in an old building with a very Australian style
Elegant and comfortable apartment in great location with lots of street parking. Positives; location, styling, quiet. Negatives: poor soundproofing between two bedrooms could hear everything. Shower needs maintenance and fixture replacing. No dishwasher. No reception. Please note no lift if there are mobility issues.
We stayed in the Grand Room (No 1). The room was very big and had an inviting fire going when we arrived. We did arrive a little earlier than the check in time of 2.00pm and found parking was a bit of an issue. The car parks out the back were full (I assume with cleaning staff) and there were no staff on site. There was no parking out the front - a very busy church or school across the road...

Big room with kitchette. Big fridge/ freezer. Fantastic water pressure in shower. Bed comfortable, great pillows. Excellent location
Great central location in Ballarat. Staff not that friendly when greeting them. We stayed for 3 nights but unfortunately found the room we stayed in was not that soundproof with adjoining neighbour and had a very sleepless night on one of the nights when adjoining room was occupied by an inconsiderate man who seemed to enjoy a drink and late night sport. Probably would not return for this reason.
The location was quite good. The only downside would be the hill that you will likely have to go up and down on to reach the nearby locations. The wifi was decent, just sometimes very slow. The room itself was adequate for a few nights' stay. The walls and roof were somewhat dusty and had some small bugs. The couch was quite worn and had dried paint on it, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The bed was...
Clean, spacious, good sized bathroom..with bench either side....great for make-up. "Kitchen" Sink, bench, larger style fridge for hotel... Beard brand bed...soooooo comfortable... Great place to launch from.
Much better than I expected given the price! Real value for money. Large room, comfy bed, two large size TVs one in the sitting area downstairs (didn't use them), everything down to nice rain shower, good quality toiletries ( not the standard hotel stuff) and ironing board provided, nice pantry with a fridge. Wifi was superb I could easily do mails and calls. There's enough eateries and pubs within...
Rooms were spacious, facilities were fantastic. Highly recommend

Great friendly staff, comfortable room and good breakfast 👌
Very good place to stay in Ballarat. Nice staff. Easy check in and check out.
We were staying here overnight while working in the local area. Rooms were basic with all the necessities, tidy and excellent value for money and the check-in process was smooth. One thing to note is that breakfast doesn't kick off until 7am, so if you need to leave early you might miss out.
The rooms were fresh painted. New towels and curtains. The amenities were clean and looked updated. Clean and comfortable for a night stay. Continental breakfast was served in a hostel-style room with making your own. The unfriendly guy at the reception put a damper on our stay and left a ? if I would stay next time.
1 night stay room was equipped with all the necessary facilities, microwave, toaster, kettle. Bathroom was a little unusual with having to walk through the shower to get to the vanity, but shower rose in ceiling was an excellent use of the space.
This motel's room was neat a clean only problem high steps to door. The breakfast room was very neat and clean. It was good to have a continental breakfast included in what was a very good budget price. The staff were very helpful and professional also friendly.

Great centrally located Motel. Nice, clean rooms. One downfall is that the bedding ( sheets etc) are not changed every day. There's a notice stating that they're changed every 3 days, unless advised by the guest that they require the room to be tidy and linen changed. Overall it's a good place
Large room, large bathroom, good shower, clean, comfy, close to restaurants, bars, shops, free parking
Walking distance from the CBD, which is good, Macca's over the road. Not sure if this place has ever seen a gardener. They are saving lots of money on maintenance of rooms (my assessment from our room). New towels were overlooked so had to go to the office.
Really nice, and the location is really good. Is close with everything. You can walk or use car, you can get everything you need :)
Stayed over for 4 nights. Staff were great and always happy to help. Rooms very clean and tidy.
Staff were a bit rude and hard to understand and the room felt dirty on multiple occasions. Good location in relation to town centre and safe parking which was nice but I wouldn’t come back.
