De Keyser Hotel in Antwerp

This hotel is simply awful, do not stay here. When we arrived the hotel staff kept switching from English back to Dutch for some reason no matter how much we replied in English. He directed us to the lift and then informed us that it was actually broken, and we need to use the service lift (you need to press the button to call it approximately 400 times). Not a great start.

On the surface the room looks fine, but it turns out that the radiator in the bathroom doesn't work. The water from the shower was lukewarm at best. The pillows are weirdly small, solid and the best they'll do for you is a twin bed pushed together instead of a double bed.

Upon returning to the hotel in the evening of a very rainy december night, we tried to use the temperature controls to warm up and help dry things off. But the temperature control in the room is non-functional - according to other reviews, the hotel management are also your parents who won't let you put the heating/airco on. So we called reception, they brought a plug-in radiator to our room, but also told us that it actually wasn't cold (we didn't ask!). We told them it was outrageous and they told us to just complain to Booking. We did, but as it is a 'partner hotel', Booking will not do anything about it (except continue to work with them).

Furthermore, despite the airco unit being completely non-functional, it does have a very annoying, very bright flashing green light on it, that will prevent you from sleeping.

There was a lot of noise inside the room; I mean, the front glass of the room was letting in a lot of noise. It was a very unpleasant night.

Very old hotel, was very cold, we were provided with a heater, but it was of poor quality and did not work. So we got sick after spending a few days in this place. There was also an annoying air conditioner that didn't work, but the light was on even at night, which made it difficult to sleep. The pillows and bed were not comfortable.

When we checked in, the employee told us to pay extra for breakfast, but we had already paid for it, and he said breakfast wasn't included. (Looks like he wanted this extra money in his pocket) And we returned the next morning and a different employee was here, who said everything was fine and breakfast was included.

The only positives are the delicious breakfasts and the location. But I would never return to this hotel again.

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this hotel. The entire heating system was broken while the temperature outside was -2°C, which made the room unbearably cold. On top of that, the heating unit had some strange, loud alarm that went off every single hour throughout the night. We couldn’t sleep at all — it was a complete nightmare.

What made it even worse was the lack of responsibility from the staff. No one seemed to care or take ownership of the issue. We asked the reception if we could check out a little later than usual so we could at least get some rest after the sleepless night, but she coldly told us we would have to pay extra.

This hotel takes your money but offers no service in return. There was zero empathy, zero accountability, and zero comfort. I would absolutely not recommend staying here.

Disliked · This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had in my life. The phone in the room is not connected to the network, and there isn't even a suitable outlet nearby. I have to get dressed and go downstairs to say that the room is as hot as a sauna because the air conditioner is running at full power and the control panel is locked. It turns out that it can only be turned on and off from the front desk, and it only has two modes: maximum or off. The room smelled of smoke. There was no water in the room. When I went downstairs again to ask if I could buy water, I was told to go to McDonald's because the hotel doesn't sell water.

Hair in the shower, no clean sheets, the bed was TERRIBLE!!
We left.
They'll never see us again.
