Lace Hotel in Bruges

Good location, short walk to train station, Bruge centre & attractions. Clean rooms, nice bathroom & basic toiletries provided. Rooms are plain but reasonable price so cannot complain Downsides: water provided but not in the fridge, this was never replaced; bed was never made & room never cleaned; was not given new toilet roll Breakfast was awful! Not worth the money. Service at check in was good, but the guy at breakfast was miserable

My partner and I stayed here in December 2024. Pros - Room was very spacious and the bed was big & comfy. There was an enormous amount of wardrobe space - 2 full-sized wardrobes to hang clothes in (although not many hangers), 2 regular-sized cabinets and one long cabinet with plenty of shelf space, so it was very easy to stash all of your belongings - Bathroom was modern and the shower was also huge; toiletries were provided (soap, shampoo, body wash), although they were in small quantities - There were plenty of hooks in the bathroom to hang your towels - Hotel was conveniently located and it took under 10 minutes to walk to the centre of Bruges - There was a small shop across the road with basic food & snack necessities, which was useful. We picked up some iced coffees and snacks in the absence of the hotel providing anything; there was a fridge in the room, so you could stash bought refrigerated food in there Cons - Bathroom had a swinging door that didn’t cover the gap from wall to ceiling, so privacy was a bit of an issue when using it. Bars of soap were provided but there was no soap dish, so it was difficult finding somewhere convenient to put the soap once you’d used it. Similar issue with the shower; there was no shelf or anywhere to put toiletries, so they had to be placed on the floor. It had mediocre water pressure and was not long enough to warrant there not being a shower door; the floor was soaked every time we showered. I agree with other reviews that say the hotel favours modern aesthetics over proper functionality - There were no tea or coffee facilities at all - The room wasn’t properly cleaned during our stay (as a side note: we did use the ‘do not disturb’ door sign for 2 days but the 2 days we didn’t, nothing was cleaned properly) - the only things that were done were the replacing of towels (which we didn’t actually require or request as we only stayed for 4 days) and the bins emptying. The things that genuinely needed doing - such as hoovering the floor, wiping surfaces down & replacing the water - weren’t done - I appreciate that this isn’t necessarily the hotel’s fault, but there was quite a bit of street noise, such as music and people shouting, that could be heard from the room. We stayed in the superior king room and I had to wear ear plugs every night, as it’s above multiple restaurants/bars (and round the corner from 3 kebab shops!) I noticed it almost constantly throughout our stay if I took my ear plugs out (e.g. 10pm, 12am, 1am, 3.30am on a weekday), but without earplugs it would have been absolutely unbearable on the weekend. The walls in the hotel were paper thin and it definitely felt like they could have invested in better sound proofing around the windows to prevent this from becoming a major issue; it was also noticeable within the hotel as you could hear other guests showering through the wall. This is a strange hotel. We chose it because it is on the edge of the old city within easy walking distance to the sights, and within walking distance to the train station. The room ws large, clean, and airy, and for a three-star hotel in Bruges it was pretty cheap at about €125 a night. But the service was very poor. There was no one at the desk most of the time and they didn't make up our room during the four nights we stayed. I had to go down, ring the bell, and wait ten minutes to get fresh towels. We came during a heat wave and the hotel doesn't have air conditioning. The breakfast is very basic. On the whole I'd only recommend it if you can't get a better deal somewhere else.
