Shenzhen Shengang Station Hostel in Shenzhen

Shenzhen Railway Station (often called Luohu Station by locals) is the city's older, original rail hub. While it is incredibly convenient for those crossing the border from Hong Kong, it lacks the modern "wow" factor and streamlined efficiency of the newer Shenzhen North or Futian stations.

Unbeatable Border Access: This station is located directly next to the Luohu Port border crossing. If you are arriving from Hong Kong via the East Rail Line, it’s a simple walk across the bridge to catch a train deeper into Guangdong province.

Direct Connectivity: It’s the terminus for the high-frequency C-series "Intercity" trains to Guangzhou East, making it very easy to commute between the two cities. It is also well-served by Metro Line 1 (Luohu Station).

Surrounding Amenities: Because it's in the heart of the old Luohu district, you are steps away from the famous Luohu Commercial City (shopping) and plenty of affordable hotels and local eateries.

Dated Facilities: Unlike the airport-style feel of the newer stations, this one feels like an older generation of transport hub. The waiting rooms can feel cramped, and some of the signage and facilities (like restrooms) are in need of an upgrade.

Confusing Layout: The station is split across multiple levels with various "entry" points that aren't always clearly marked. If you are carrying heavy luggage, navigating the ramps and tunnels between the Metro, the border, and the train platforms can be a bit of a workout.

The "Hustle" Factor: Because it is a major border point, there are often many "touts" or unofficial drivers offering rides or services. It can feel a bit more chaotic and less relaxed than the more modern stations in the city.

Give Yourself Extra Time: Due to the slightly confusing layout and security checkpoints, arrive at least 45–60 minutes before your departure, especially if you need to pick up paper tickets or use the manual ID counters.

Watch the Signs: Look specifically for the "Intercity" (Guangzhou) vs. "Long Distance" signs, as they lead to different waiting areas.

Luggage: If you have very heavy bags, look for the elevators near the Metro exits, as some of the older escalators in the station can be out of service or very crowded.

It’s a 3-star station because it gets the job done and offers the best connection to Hong Kong. However, it’s definitely more about "utility" than "comfort." If you have the choice and are heading elsewhere in China, the newer Shenzhen North station offers a much smoother experience.

Pretty good system to link up the nearby cities with decent pricing.

The train is very clean, tidy and fast too.
