Brit Hotel Le Surcouf in St. Malo

I came to Saint Malo hoping to have a quick, relaxing get-away. Instead I had such a terrible experience with this hotel that it severely put a damper on my weekend.
To begin with, there is absolutely no security at night other than a thin glass door with no physical person to keep an eye on the property beginning around 8:30pm!! The room I had smelled musty and of mildew (I had to leave the window open during my absence during the day which made me nervous considering the lack of security). Something strange happened to one of the walls as a small portion of one wall was poorly painted a different color than the rest of the room making it look unkept and decrepit. Why they couldn't just use the same color is beyond me. The television didn't work except for 2 channels which weren't even the local ones that I needed to have a proper weather report! The only amenity they give is shower gel. No drinking water, no individual hand soap, nothing. The toilet paper is tiny individual sheets and the toilet seat cover didn't stay up easily which meant that it needed to be held while using the facilities. The walls are incredibly thin so you hear everything around you. Twice I thought someone was trying to get into my room as the sound of the key going into the door next to mine was so loud. I was woken both mornings by noise in the hallway (which consisted simply of people walking in the halls and opening their doors). The breakfast, which is ridiculously expensive for what they offer, was pathetic! There was practically nothing left to eat 45 min before the end of the breakfast time slot, with only one couple having breakfast when I arrived (can't say that they were too busy to make sure that there was fresh fruit, milk, bread etc. available!!) Instead of eating your breakfast here, I would strongly suggest going to the Maison Malécot bakery that is just two minutes away. It has a lovely breakfast/eating area and their copious breakfast is only 10€ (Two huge pieces of fresh hearty and country bread, a large selection of viennoiserie, fresh jam, freshly squeezed orange juice, tea and/or coffee- delicious!!)
Overall there are many other 3 star hotels in Saint Malo that are properly concieved with proper service and ammenities. Honestly, don't bother coming to this hotel, it's sincerely not worth it even if it means paying a little bit more elsewhere!!

Edit: In response to the director's comments: Yes, there was a problem with the booking for which I immediately explained that the problem was made with Booking.com for which the director refused to seek any compensation from and instead charged my card despite my refusal, days after I left the premises. However, if you read my comments, you will notice that they have absolutely nothing to do with his lack of understanding and client service.

I find it incrediblly distressing that a director of a supposed "3 star hotel" would prefer to laugh at constructive criticism rather than take note of his lack of security, the poor upkeep of his hotel and the pathetic conditions of the rooms and the fact that the walls are paper thin... But again, this is simply the opinion of someone who travels constantly and has never left a poor comment for ANY hotel before on ANY platform....

Poor comfort, shower half working. Only the location was great.
