Hotel Cloitre St Louis in Avignon

The stay wasn't very comfortable and was quite unpleasant...especially the stainless steel-topped toilet in the room. It's called a four-star hotel, but the facilities were rather shabby, there were mosquitoes, and the breakfast was mediocre.

But the front desk lady was very nice!

So much to say about this hotel.
We were off to a great start, but as our 4-night stay went on it only got worse.
We were told we would need to change rooms after two nights, we would be upgraded (and had to pay for the executive room) due to unavailability, fair enough, we were just glad they had space for us.
They informed us that we would just need to pack our bags and the hotel staff would move all our luggage for us. Sounded good to us. Unfortunately, that was not the case, we were told to bring our bags down that the morning and that they would take them to our new rooms at 4pm. That didn’t happen, we would need to take them ourselves. We had a similar experience when asking for a fan as the air conditioning was broken, they were going to take it to our new room (they are large and difficult to carry).
This did not happen and we were eventually given a different fan that evening to carry ourselves to the room which was half-broken and completely covered in thick dust.
When I expressed my disappointment to the reception that I was unhappy that they had told us on 4 occasions that things would be done for us and hadn’t been, I was met by the staff member saying “oh this is the Princess” to my father. I am 26 years old and I didn’t appreciate the comment. I am paying for my own room and deserve to be listened to the same as anyone else.
The normal room we started off in was much better than the executive room, even though it was much cheaper. Our air-conditioning was broken but we were pleased to have a fan.
After moving to the executive room, we were very disappointed, air-conditioning remained broken throughout our stay, our toilet flush was broken, our double bed was two single beds pushed together with a big lump in the middle, and the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. (They were much better in the previous room)
The telephones were not connected to reception in either room and you could not ask for room service or use them as is advertised.
I loved that there was a pool area but there was no shade available. No opportunity to have drinks by the pool either.
I think that if the price was cheaper and the rating was lower these things would be expected, but for a 4-star hotel it was very disappointing. Even more so that my concerns were met with sarcasm by the staff.
