Burgunderhof Hotel - Adults Only in Hagnau

Like other reviewers, we found this to be a beautiful property with really annoying management and some questionable business practices. Here is our laundry list of complaints: 1) Prior to arrival, management called multiple times to query arrival time. Eventually we were told that unless we arrived before a ridiculously early 4PM we would be charged a "late" arrival fee (around $80 USD) 2) For such a supposedly high end property the lack of air conditioning was an unexpected deficiency. One of the 3 rooms we booked had a south facing wall and the room was hot each day. The side window was insufficient for cooling so we had to sleep with the door propped open. 3) While enjoying a wine and snack sunset we discovered that all lighting in the public areas was disabled (no power). Basically we were unable to enjoy the grounds after dark. Others have lodged similar complaints, I was skeptical, but they were right. 4) During checkout, an innocuous question about the late charge (not a challenge) was met with screaming by the owners wife. A pretty defensive response to an innocent question. Unless you don't mind spending this sort of money and suffering this kind of treatment, I suggest avoiding this property. The existing smattering of negative-leaning reviews seem to be accurate. The owner responses to these reviews seem petulant and never address the actual complaints. I assume this review will illicit a similar response.
