Koopmanns Hotel und Lädchen in Ostseebad Goehren

We stayed at the hotel over Valentines Day weekend (so out of season). The hotel didn't feel packed - but it still had plenty of guests. The first thing we noticed was the parking lot was pretty small. We had the last spot the first night and one other time we had to park in a tow zone. The hotel is on a hill and the sidewalk is made of some bricks that are very slippery in snow (which we had for a part of the weekend). There is a lift in the hotel. For those that have accessibility issues be warned. As I understand, the hotel has been renovated in the last few years. Like others have said, the rooms run small. We had to wiggle between the bathroom wall and the bed to get to the far bed side and to the balcony. The decoration is nice and the bed is comfy - but the pillows were limited. (we brought our own as well so I can't say if they would provide more). The biggest problem is that there was a sewage smell. The bathroom sinks have strait piping, not the curved piping that helps prevent sewage gases from coming up the drain. So the room smelled within 5 minutes. We had to leave the bathroom vent on the whole stay to keep the smell down. The shower water also stank so bad that I was grateful I brought a shower cap. I also noticed this smell walking around the town. (It was a wet snowy and rainy weekend) The breakfast buffet was wonderful. Plenty of variety and each morning there were hot scrambled eggs and some type of meat (bacon one morning, sausage the next) and the coffee machine is top line - you can choose between tea, coffee, espresso, or hot cocoa. That was especially nice after a morning walk to the beach to warm back up. The staff is polite and friendly. It was an ok stay - you can tell they tried pretty hard to make the rooms nice and comfy. But because of the smell, I don't think we will be returning.
