The Sphinx Hotel is one of the newest and most stylish small hotels on Naxos, having been completely rebuilt and reopened in June 2025. Spread across three levels, it offers 33 well-designed rooms with modern, clean architecture and excellent upkeep by a friendly and attentive team.

Rooms are compact but thoughtfully presented, with a choice of king or twin beds, luxurious linen, pillow selection, and double-glazed, soundproof balcony doors. Some rooms offer generous balconies, with the largest in Room 204. Amenities include air conditioning, pod coffee machine, safe, and access to a kettle from reception. Rooms are serviced every two days with full linen replacement, which is more than acceptable for its official two-star rating.

Breakfast is included in the rate, offering continental through to full hot options comparable to a four-star property. The unusual addition of a lift for a hotel of this size makes access easy.

The hotel is also home to Aperto, a highly regarded Italian restaurant and bar with a lively atmosphere. Given its popularity with both guests and locals, reservations are strongly recommended.

Location is outstanding: just three minutes’ walk to Agios Georgios beach (arguably the best in Naxos) and five minutes to the harbour, with its many restaurants, boutiques, and the charming old town built on ancient ruins dating back to 4000 BC.

Verdict: Stylish, modern, and exceptionally well-kept, the Sphinx Hotel offers far more comfort and quality than its two-star rating suggests — an excellent base in Chora, Naxos.

The hotel is recently renovated and it looks like it is not quite finished. Wires hanging in some places and tape around painted areas.

Rooms have a nice setup, though the hot bath was nowhere close to warm. More like cold plunge if it is colder.

Cleanliness could have been better as well. In the room there were cleaning gloves left and the shower area had some hair from previous guests.

What really dissapointed was breakfast. Old fruits and rotten bred. Thankfully there are good restaurants with breakfast nearby

Beautiful hotel, one of the most modern hotels on the island. Great location, exceptional staff, super easy going! Highly recommended, we will definitely come back. Very well runned business! There is a very popular restaurant on the ground floor, we didnt have the chance to check it however every night was packed...and people were queueing. Well done to the owners!

This is a nice hotel! Recently renovated and has a nice restaurant attached. The good: the rooms are spacious, clean, the reception is really friendly and 24hrs. The room keys are high tech and the AC works extremely well, it can even get too cold! The bathroom is a real room separated from the hotel room, which I prefer over the open concept. There’s also a fan. The location is near the center and walkable to the beach. The breakfast goes until 11am and there is a small but nice selection of items.

Potential drawbacks: it doesn’t seem possible to take a shower without water getting everywhere due to the open concept shower walls. This means that the bathroom floor gets quite wet anytime you shower. Also, this is personal preference, and you can certainly ask for more, but I like a heavier comforter and what’s provided by default is just a sheet.

Overall this is nice hotel room and I would stay again.

We came from California hoping to explore the beauty of Naxos, and Sphinx Hotel turned out to be the perfect choice. Ideally located in the heart of town, it allowed us to easily wander through charming streets, enjoy local restaurants, and take in everything the island has to offer—right at our doorstep.

The hotel itself is spotless, with brand-new, tastefully designed rooms that are both stylish and incredibly comfortable. We especially loved the spacious balconies—perfect for relaxing with a morning coffee or unwinding in the evening with a glass of wine.

But what truly made our stay exceptional was the warm hospitality. The owner is genuinely gracious and a wonderful guy, and the entire staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for.

Sphinx Hotel offers not just a place to stay, but a thoughtful, relaxing experience. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Naxos.

Not lgbtq friendly. When checking in, the receptionist said that they gave away our one bed room to someone else since they saw 2 male names and assumed we didn't want one bed. Also, wifi does not exist in certain rooms including ours. The water went out due to a city pipe break the following morning. I asked for water to wash my hands after going to the bathroom when i discovered the water was out, and receptionist first said, "what do you want me to do? I haven't washed my hands this morning" and was serving the breakfast. He reluctantly gave me 3 small bottles of water.

The rooms were neat and tidy, very basic and outdated. It would have been nice if there was a kettle in the room. The shower did not drain properly in our room, making the bathroom a wet room. Located very close to the beach and walking distance to the port.

Sphinx hotel was awesome! It was super cute and located in a great area near a beach, shopping, and lots of restaurants. It felt like we were in the heart of Naxos. The staff were also fantastic and gave great suggestions on what to do in the area and how to use transportation to get to other areas. This hotel is definitely a must!
