Hotel Makednos in Nikiti

AVOID this hotel!
I write this to make sure people will know what to expect, as there are many surprises upon arrival.
We received a "ground" floor room which is actually UNDERground, room is very dark and the sewage and mould smell is strong and persistent. I asked for a room change for 2 days in a row, explaining my kid has mould allergy and this is a health issue but no willingless to help, although the reception girl was really nice she could not help.
Old facilities, noise in the common area until late at night. Food is not eatable, please read other reviews on this subject.
Our first completely ruined holliday in Greece in over 20 years, we visit Greece every year. Unexpected.

Stayed at Makednos between 23–31 August 2025

We were two families (with 1 and 2 children) and stayed for 8 nights at a cost of €180/night with half-board. Our room was on the ground floor, in front of the playground.

I’m leaving this review to help other families who are considering a stay here.

1. Food – The quality was disappointing. Breakfast and dinner were almost identical every day (90% the same menu). Vegetables were supermarket-quality with little taste. Fish or seafood appeared only 2–3 times (fried calamari soaked in oil, and one fish dish with sauce that didn’t look appealing).
2. Coffee – Undrinkable, with no upgrade option available, even at extra cost.
3. Room – Mattresses were extremely soft, offering no support. Very old furniture, broken bathroom dor. Week lightning. The bathroom had a constant bad smell from the pipes, and flushing noises from other rooms were very disturbing.
4. Noise / Quiet hours – No quiet-time policy was enforced. Even after 23:00, families stayed on the terrace talking loudly. For families with children or those who go to bed early, this meant poor quality rest.
5. Beach – Clean, but the water has many stones. Contrary to what we had read, it is not sandy.
6.Pools – Acceptable, no major issues.
7.Playground – Very basic, with some broken equipment.

We left very disappointed. Online reviews seem overly positive compared to the reality. For the price paid, the value and quality of service were far too low. Our recommendation: instead of this hotel, rent an apartment and dine at local taverns – daily costs are similar, but the experience and food quality are much better.

It is a small hotel with a pool on the beach front.Thay ask much just for sun beds in front 60 to 40 eur..back sunbeds 10 eur per person. All the grass is burned by the sun, it doesn't look preety at all. There is no shower on the beach. They are also in construction, so there are plenty of construction things scattered around. I didn't like the reception at all-small narrow, round place..It seems like they want to take peoples money but they don't offer nothing in return.Also there are no concrete roads around the hotel- to much dust..the parking are dust and dirt as well.There is also one water canal next to the beach that doesn't look good at all.

We were on a vacation at the Makendos hotel in June. When we turned on the air condition, a pile of dirt fell on us. We reported it to the hotel manager, who sad she will send a maid (she came right away) and the technicians to fix it. They didn't come until the end of our vacation, and AC turned on whenever the voltage dropped, so the maid cleaned it twice more.
From the first day we woke up bitten, even though there wasn't a single mosquito in the room. We realized that we had bedbugs in our bed. We reported it and the manager told me that they were misquitoes. She sad that all rooms were vacuumed before the season started, because they are very responsible. I reminded her about the uncleaned AC and that's how we ended the conversation. Now I pray that we didn't bring bedbugs into the house.
Otherwise, the room was nice and the beds were comfortable. The food was simple but delicious. The maid was very nice.
If we didn't have a problem with bedbugs and AC, it would have been a god vacation.
