Petrino Eco Village in Afitos

Built entirely from local natural stone, the resort is a stunning example of how to honor traditional Macedonian design while offering 21st-century luxury. Petrino Suites is one of the most atmospheric hotels in Chalkidiki, where the scent of jasmine and the warmth of the stone create an unforgettable "home away from home." While not directly on the beach, the hotel provides a swimming pool with sunbeds for its guests. Its position offers the perfect balance between the quiet of the countryside and the vibrant life of Afytos village. The rooms are spacious, featuring high wooden ceilings and handpicked antique-style furniture.

What a lovely place. Beautiful surroundings. Accommodation although booked as ‘self catering’ you really couldn’t ‘cook’ anything as not hob ! Just a sink, draining board, kettle, 2 dinner plates, 2 knives & forks, 2 glasses and 2 coffee cups! Very small fridge too - but it didn’t put us off as the accommodation was really comfortable. We loved the exposed brick walls in our accommodation but as with a lot of Greek places, the stairs in our maisonette were very steep! Loved the pool, jacuzzi and sunbeds. Food served at the bar from 1pm was delicious. Froso was very helpful and friendly. We didn’t have breakfast as it was mainly cold food. We slept that well that we didn’t wake up til near lunchtime anyway. Walked into Afitos every evening and had some fab meals. There are loads of restaurants to choose from. Do check ratings on here before you try as they are pretty accurate. We only experienced one bad place and that was without checking first so we learnt our lesson. Highly recommend this place. No need to walk along the main road as there is another quieter road opposite the accommodation that takes you in Afitos. Beautiful shops and it’s very pretty. There’s a supermarket there too where we bought bits and then jumped in a taxi home. Cost 5-6 euros. All the taxis are Mercedes and immaculately clean.

Overall we had a really lovely time. The hotel is very pretty, especially the pool area and the gardens. We had a superior maisonette with private pool, although this was smaller and darker than I would have liked; it was still very pleasant and cleaned daily. The food provided at the pool bar was always nice, albeit more expensive than anywhere else in Afitos. We had breakfast on the first day which was delicious however very chaotic. It was a buffet style breakfast and unfortunately they had ran out of clean plates, cups, glasses, cutlery meaning we and several others were all stood around waiting for some time. I’m pleased to say we had breakfast again on the last day and it was a totally different experience. We really thought that all the complimentary extras which were provided were a really nice touch. Such as; a ten minute massage, yoga in the gardens and the open air cinema. We also enjoyed the wine tasting on offer and the newly opened sister restaurant Philema. We were provided with a voucher for a 10% discount which again was appreciated. Our only criticism would be the petting zoo which is advertised on the website. I was actually really saddened by this as it was actually just a small locked coop with some rather hen pecked looking chickens and turkeys, not the rabbits and goats that we were expecting! Our youngest was really disappointed. The mosquitoes are rife, however the hotel does try to help with this by providing indoor plug in repellents and outdoor candles. The hotel tries its best and the staff work really hard to please the guests.

We have just returned from a 12 night stay, I booked a premium maisonette but had concerns about the steep staircase as my son sleepwalks so they put us in what I think was a family apartment which worked better on the safety front but had no Kitchenette only a fridge and kettle, we were able to request cutlery and crockery from the front desk so we made it work. Our room was in a new building at the back of the property so not as quaint as the rooms on the website but comfortable. We ate the hotel breakfast the first morning which was very good but we felt expensive when our kids would only have some fruit and yogurt so we made our own. We loved the hotel it has a village feel and is so pretty surrounded by farmers fields. The staff were lovely and friendly and work extremely hard! The pool area is a nice place to hang out but there aren’t enough loungers around the pool. There was lots of reserving loungers early in the morning with towels tactics and if a family of 4 took 4 loungers it left others sitting on cushions or in the bar. There are notices up asking people not to reserve them but it didn’t make any difference it’s lovely to have the green space around the pool area but I wonder if some of it could be used to provide extra space for loungers? The hotel is not in a location where you can easily go to the beach if there is no space by the pool, the closest beach Varkes is a 7 minute drive to the easiest parking, you could walk to a steep pathway from the hotel in 10 minutes though. Loungers down here were €20 per day each if you get there in time. The beach is really lovely though. We couldn’t use the hotels beach club on Afytos beach as our kids were too young. The walk in to Afytos town in the evening takes about 20 minutes, there are loads of places to eat, we particularly loved Philema which is owned by Petrino, you get 10% off your bill here. A taxi to or from town costs €5-6 and is worth doing in the dark. We hired a car for 5 days and made the most of it travelling to the south of the Kassandra peninsula, up to Thessaloniki, to Petralona cave and to Vourvourou beach on the Sithonia peninsula which we loved. I would really recommend getting out and about if you can. Despite the pool frustrations we would stay here again, the hotel has a lovely home from home feel.

The setting is dreamy—lush gardens, stone paths, and little lanterns at night. We stayed in a mezzanine suite and really appreciated the privacy and romantic atmosphere. The on-site restaurant served delicious local dishes, and the staff made us feel so welcome without ever being intrusive. Highly recommended for a quiet couples' retreat.

Just left this hotel, after a 10 day family holiday. We stayed in the annex house with garden and pool. But looking at the other accommodation. It looked more than nice enough. I've never felt so relaxed on a holiday ever. The pool area was just lovely. There were only about 35 loungers. But I would get mine at about 8.30 and I would be the first person there. So no trouble getting one. The pool bar area was gorgeous the way it looked and was designed. I've read that food and drinks were really expensive. But the average meal was between £10-12. And the quality of blood was fantastic. The only thing that I found expensive. We're cans of soft drinks. 5 euros were very very expensive. The reception staff couldn't do enough for you and always with a huge smile on their faces. The bar staff were very welcoming and friendly. It got a lot more busy on our last 2 days with it being start of school holidays. But definitely not rowdy. We are already talking of returning

Lovely 2 weeks at the Petrino Suites. Loved the stone apartments, set in garden surroundings. Stairs were very steep in room 115, but it was kept exceptionally clean by Vicky, who was a joy and was well maintained. No hook in the shower, so had to be held. Sold by TUI as self catering but had no cooking facilities, just sink, fridge, kettle and plates, cutlery etc. No bowls, but borrowed some from the staff in breakfast room. Lovely private terrace at the back. Air conditioning and safe were included in price. Pool area was very relaxed and we were very well looked after by lovely Efrosini, who worked exceptionally hard serving drinks and food in the afternoon/evenings, nothing was too much trouble. Bar prices were on the high side 9E for a short, 7E a pint, 5E for soft drink. Food was very tasty and well presented. Bottom of pool is stone and hurt your feet when using the steps, but was very clean and lovely to swim in. A few more sunbeds could have been provided, but most days we found an empty one and there was plenty of other seating areas in the shade. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We loved watching the barn swallows nesting and fledging above the bar and in other areas around the complex, Afytos is 20 mins walk down the left hand fork opposite the hotel and is an amazing place. Full of tavernas and shops, but very busy 7.30 onwards and people were queuing for dinner tables. The beach is a further 20 mins walk down a steep hill. TUI advertised nearest beach as 20 mins, but it is nearer 40 and all uphill on the way back. Sandy with warm, shallow water it is very popular, but some areas of the sea was very rocky. Sun bed prices were extortionate 30-60E, but plenty of space for beach umbrellas.

We had a wonderful stay at Petrino suites. Rooms comfortable but need a bit more storage and the bed was a little hard for me. Staff are very friendly and work very hard. Breakfast and bar food very tasty. Prices for drinks a bit expensive compared to Afytos. Lovely, clean and relaxing hotel with lovely grounds and pool. Be aware the bottom, sides and steps of the pool are pebble dash and rough under foot. Bottom step into pool is hard to see and easy to miss it. Had two facials by Georgia during my stay, wonderful and relaxing! Taxi costs 6 euros into Afytos which is worth every penny in the heat! Great restaurants and bars in Afytos. Food everywhere is very good. Value for money and service go to Ambrosia. Notos and Fortuna bars for views. To Kyma restaurant by the beach for amazing fish dishes and the fish platter is great value for money, but make sure you use mosquito spray before you go! Will definitely return!

Breakfast here deserves its own review! Freshly baked pies, thick creamy yogurt, honey from nearby hives, and a rotation of handmade pastries each morning—it was a feast. We ended up waking up earlier just to enjoy it slowly. The presentation was beautiful and everything tasted like it was made with care. One morning they even had homemade fig jam that I still dream about. Coffee was strong and flavorful too. It felt more like a homemade brunch at a Greek grandma’s than a hotel buffet.

Nice place with very good food which is made fresh and with local ingredients. The service is very polite. The rooms are good but the beds are very hard.
