Reviews
We had two rooms with views of the mountains and the waterfall, which was truly special. The rooms were a little on the smaller side, but they were very clean and the beds were comfortable.
A useful note: the cold water in the room is safe for drinking, while the hot water comes from natural hot springs (which may have a slight sulfur smell, as is common in Iceland).
Breakfast had a smaller selection, but the taste and quality were good. I would also recommend trying the hotel restaurant at least once during your stay—the food was quite enjoyable.
We were fortunate to catch the northern lights on both nights. On the first night, there was a strong, dancing aurora (around KP 6–7 / G3 storm) right outside the hotel in the parking area. On the second night (around KP 3), I woke up in the middle of the night and was still able to capture it on my phone despite some light pollution from the hotel.
One small thing to note is that the main entrance doors close after 11 PM, so we had to use the side entrance when returning late at night.
The LASAGNA is a must have plate if you ever passed by the waterfall in the area or checked in the hotel. It’s homemade with love and warmth !! So good you’ll be happy afterwards 🤭 I know I was 🤩
What truly elevates the experience is the spectacular view of the waterfall nearby—the scenery somehow makes the food taste even better. The restaurant is very popular, and the food was exceptionally good, so making a reservation is highly recommended. I would happily recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.
Location is good and right next to the waterfall. Cleanliness is acceptable.
Anyhow, the location is awesome, amazing just waking up and visiting the waterfall as first thing of the day when tourists are still on the road. However, it felt a little bit like a tourist trap. It's quite more expensive than all the other places we stayed (because of the location and the great position to visit the south west coast), but the room is very "unpersonalized" and can be improved: e.g., given the geothermal water, hot water form the sink is not drinkable; i would maybe recommend to add a boiler in each room so that it is possible to warm up cold water and drink tee in the room or fill in flasks before hiking without using the one coffee machine in the corridor - somethign that all the other hotels I stayed simply offered. The breakfast is also standard. Some reviews complain about the geothermal-water smell: I instead think it is quite nice to experience that - it doesnt stick to the skin as someone says.
Lastly, kinda hard to drive there during night, where no signs indicate how to get in front of the hotel from the parking of Skógafoss.
Restaurant is open up to 21 which is good if you arrive late at night after sightseeing and you can have drink up to 23!
Overall, I woudl recommend it once in life but I would not come back for a second time.
