Description

Laufás Guesthouse is a modest two-star accommodation located in Egilsstadir, Iceland. Guests can choose from several room types including Standard Double, Standard Triple, and rooms with mountain or garden views, as well as a Run of House option. The guesthouse operates out of an older building above the local post office, which was formerly a postal office, giving it a unique setting rather than a traditional house. Amenities include free parking, WiFi, a bar, a garden, a terrace, and a shared kitchen area. Heating is available throughout the property. The guesthouse offers both smoking and non-smoking areas, with a designated smoking zone. While it has basic facilities, some reviewers noted issues with bed comfort and noise due to room placement near bathrooms. Check-in requires collecting keys from a sister property across the street, which some guests found inconvenient. The hotel maintains an overall rating of 7/10 with consistent scores in cleanliness, service, location, and amenities.

Location

Laufás Guesthouse is located at Fagradalsbraut 9 in Egilsstadir. It sits above the town's post office in a quiet area without a town center or notable restaurants nearby. This location makes it a practical stopover point when traveling between southeastern and northern Iceland.

this place was nice, I even got upgraded and sent to a nice room across the street in their sister guest house. However I was situated directly opposite the bathroom, where other guests were in and out of throughout the night and other guests were talking and I could hear them. I had a bad sleep and it was ashame as I had to drive quite far the next day. I wouldn't stay here again for this reason.

The rooms are located upstairs an old postal office. It’s not really a house. Interiors are ok with large kitchen and living room. All is clean.
Only two stars because the bed in the small room is absolutely a bad bed. Mattress isn’t flat, you fall at the middle of the bed, it’s really bad for your back and your comfort. Please replace it. It’s a key feature for a room.

The place looks nice with all basic amenities. But the check-in is very difficult with the keys to be collected from another hotel, it was raining & to figure this out took long time. They also charged me 300 ISK more, which is not mentioned anywhere in the booking.

Clean and quiet. Kitchen is available with coffee but bring your own cream or milk as none was available when we were there. Overall great for a nights stay.

Nice, clean and pleasant guest house (operated by sister guest house across the street). Large common area and well-equipped kitchen. Located above the post office in the sleepy town of Egilstadir, where there's no town center or restaurants of note, it serves as an excellent stopover between the southeast and north of the country.

Good Service, chic rooms and very tasty Breakfast. The best Hotel on the trip. Therefore, 5 Stars. The price has been pretty varied for the Hotel, we get in our eyes, a good price (June) and were thus also with the price / performance is very satisfied.

Good place for a stopover. The city is not so exciting, so you will not stay here very long. I liked this hotel, the rooms are nice and well equipped, the restaurant has a very good menu.

Comfortable, basic hotel. Rooms are not huge but high ceilings adds to spaciousness. Comfortable bed. No amenities except a kettle. Walking distance to community pool/rec centre (recommended). Very good breakfast compared to some Icelandair hotels although fruit cocktail out of a can was disappointing. Recommended.

Worst service we’ve ever received. Especially from Norbert. Wanted to buy bottled water but they kept insisting that we drink the tap water and not to buy. I can make my own decisions. Rooms okay but bathrooms need updating.

At this point in our trip I was catching a bit of a cold. So I just remember that the room was warm and comfortable. The lobby was nicely decorated and everything was clean and well taken care of.
